Champ, I get it. I apologize for my childish posts, sir. Seriously, I do. I mean you lived through the SB III era, which was 40+ yrs ago. Im thinking you'd be around 60 if not more. You just want to see us win atleast one more SB in your lifetime and that is not insane at all. And since you probably don't have another 40 yrs to wait(Hey, Im 26 and Im not sure if I have 40 more days to live). Lets hope we all get to see a VLT with the Jets.
Why, oh why do people waste time arguing with Champ. Just ignore him, that's all he deserves.I guess everyone has to learn the hard way.
ALOT of its just pure playground mentality, this poster is baiting him, so will I, strength in numbers.
But you're obviously not following your own advice because you're not ignoring him either. He's got you too, and you just don't realize it yet. Go ahead, I dare you. Try to refute what he says... just give it a try. One little post...
I meant it since his is such a whiney little bitch and hates everything the Jets do and don't do he might as well root for one of the "elite" teams like the Cowboys and their far superior owner, Jerry Jones.
If you have such a problem with the team, root for the one who's state you are living in. You're thick-headed, old man.
Check your sources. Google search confirms that he was bought out in May 1968 (not only by Hess but also the other 3 or 4 chumps that owned the team). The story about him and SB III was that he made a boatload of cash betting on the Jets, which he would not have been able to do as owner. Having said that, of course Sonny was the best owner (and GM) the Jets have ever had. And he deserves all the credit for SBIII, even though he was gone by then. His last act before selling out was getting Joe Willie a new contract (original deal would have run out after '68).
Nope then for once the net is incorrect. Hess bought his 25% share & when he did that he became majority owner of the team. Then later on he bought I think Townsend 25% share from his daughter after he past away & finally bought the last 25% so that he was then the sole owner of the team
I love a challenge on historical veracity. From the Jets' website, Under 1968: May 21, Change At The Top Ownership partners Don Lillis, Leon Hess, Townsend Martin and Phil Iselin bought out Sonny Werblin, with Lillis assuming the club's presidency. Lillis died (July 23). Iselin was appointed president and Mrs. Helen Springborn, Lillis' daughter, joined the board of directors (Aug. 6) http://www.newyorkjets.com/team/history/1968 Under 1976: September 19, Iselin Illness President Phil Iselin, who led the Jets for eight years, suffered a cardiac arrest while attending the team's game at Denver. Three months later, Iselin suffered a fatal heart attack while at his office. http://www.newyorkjets.com/team/history/1976 Under 1981: March 2, Owner Shift Townsend Martin sold his 25 percent interest in the Jets to Leon Hess, who assumed 75 percent ownership of the club. Helen Dillon remained at 25 percent. http://www.newyorkjets.com/team/history/1981 Under 1984: February 9, Hess Owns It All Leon Hess assumed full ownership of the team as Helen Dillon, a partner since 1968, sold her 25 percent interest in the club. http://www.newyorkjets.com/team/history/1984
Some questions Earlier it seems like you posted the Jets were complete failures, and now your saying they had a good season, I'm confused which is it? Another question, lets say the Jets win two Superbowls in the next decade, would you say they were 80% failures for the decade? Reading your posts on this thread it appears that you don't get much enjoyment out of following the Jets, so why not just save yourself (and us here defending the Jets) the aggravation and find something that is more enjoyable to you. I'm not trying to be a jerk, just really wondering why come to the party if your not having a good time, if that makes sense.
Eh, some people feel that if your team doesn't win it all then season was a failure, and it's not wrong to think that way, because all teams start the season with that goal, I sorta feel the same way too, but after a good season like this one I don't really feel sad about how it ended because of the promising future this team has, but in the end they didn't win it all, and thats the one thing we all want.
Gotta enjoy the ride Champ, its coming buddy. The qb and coach just started unlike Michaels and Todd and Vinnie and Tuna. We all want the VLT held high in Woody's arms but winning is still better then losing. Was this year just as enjoyable as the Kotite years, they both ended the same way, with a loss?
