do the small market teams in mlb really swim?more like tread water.the marlins just agreed to increase their payroll when the union threatened to take them to court.the complaint was the marlins were not spending th money they received from other clubs to help them be competitive.thats gonna happen in the nfl same way.some/most owners will see this as an oppurtunity to increase profit % without the hope of ever winning.cut payroll to minimum and rake on the tv deals and the gate.
If the NFL ever becomes uncapped entirely, I think it would be a good thing for the Jets. I wouldn't mind being the Yankees of the NFL if it means we can get a few Super Bowls
nah.i'm a big yankee fan,but a part of me always feel bad for the fans of the pirates, royals and such.there's just no reason to be excited about the season when you know there is no way in hell you have a chance to win.if the nfl becomes that it will be a sad day
I'd think that the players themselves would probably prefer a cap actually. With the lack of a cap probably comes a severe lock down on player mobility.
The rookie cap I want to see regardless of how free agency progresses from here. As far as free agency goes, if the cap gets instituted, I would love to see a soft cap instead of the old hard cap. Putting in a few exemptions to make it easier for teams to resign their players would be a great change from the old system and probably keep the players' happier with their contracts.
There is one thing, a BIG thing that is hovering over several NFL teams. PSL's. If the owner lock the players out, they have a hornet's nest to deal with. The PSL is a contract. If there is a lockout, the teams will get sued by PSL holders for failure to meet contractual agreements. This whole thing could absolutley blow up in both the NFL and NFLPA's faces. There is more than enough money to go around, but greed could actually mean teams could go under, unless more reasonable heads prevail. I quit baseball over these kinds of issues. If the NFL goes the same way, the whole house of cards could tumble while the league is at it's peak of popularity and revenues. The owners are hardly saints here, but I put the blame on the players and the NFLPA. They want even more than 60% of profits. The NFLPA lost it's leadership. It's being run by agents and lawyers now. Leeches.
Of course. Any Jet fan should want to see him succeed. The problem is, the Jets have to go into next season with the assumption that he's a complete bust -even if they do keep him. What this means is that they will need to build their draft strategy and Free Agent strategy around obtaining a big-time Pass Rushing OLB. This is something that they wouldn't need to do if they thought that Gholston was salvageable. The fact that this guy barely saw the field aside from Special Teams is alarming.
Id hate to see teams in the nfl like the mlb with the yankees who can just buy out the best talent and prevent lower market teams from getting big time players. Im a mets fan and even though we have a huge payroll I still wish there was a cap in baseball.
Those small market teams claim that they can't afford to have higher payrolls - where is all the profits from the team going? Into the owners pockets. You have to spend money to make money. The Pirates/Marlins hardly try, the owners stay richer but the team gets worse. Why is that? What constitutes a small market team - payroll and revenue? You can't just put scrubs on the field and then cry when the Yankees win the World Series every year. If you have to invest more of your profits into your team, do it. I'm not crying for a multi millionaire that own the Pirates who doesn't know how to run a baseball team, it's just not going to happen. You also can't compare a 16 game regular season to 162 games. If there's a game on every single day, it's a lot harder to fill a stadium. Who says that the NFL has any parity now? Last time I checked, the Browns, Lions, Rams...they continue to struggle.
I agree... ther is one thing I don't understand though. when Mawae speaks about "the players giving back 20%" does he mean of the money they have made in these years or that they'll get 20% less of the revenues in the future (like if now they get 60% of the NFL income they have to go down to 40%)? thanks in advance
I think that the league wants to drop 20% of the revenue sharing with players. The idea behind it being that the league can invest more money, generate a larger revenue, and then pay the players higher salaries. It's complete, trickle-down bullshit.
agree 100% with you... what I really hate is that the NFLPA told the owners: "if you really have so many financial problems show us the economic books of the NFL to see just how bad things are" and the owners + the NFL answered "you have to take our word for it". If they were in good faith wy would they refuse to show the NFLPA their financial records... to me this is just a power move made by the owners to make more money.
....there were reports last week that Los Angeles hired a firm to seek out an NFL team to move to LA...the top two mentioned were...Buffalo & Jacksonville...I wouldn't want to see Buffalo get hosed like that....
The "Father(league) knows best" mentality of the owners is absolutely sickening right now. The worst part is that now Mara seems to be openly in the same boat with Jones and Snyder thanks to his recent comments. This is the exact kind of greed that could ruin the NFL. I hope the Player's Union is reaching out to the MLBPA for some assistance on this.
I hope they keep the name when they move to LA. Gotta keep the nonsensical team name theme going with the Lakers and the Dodgers.
