I think most people in this forum are in agreement that Mike Iupati is a solid prospect, to say the least. Well, I haven't seen any video on it, but apparently he got bitched by fellow Samoan Tyson Alualu during blocking drills for the Senior Bowl.

I've also read the phrase "ragdolled." (Can't wait to see the film!)

High motor, high character, well-versed in the 3-4, great size for our kind of DE, never had a problem with injuries and leaves Cal with 38 consecutive starts... this is definitely a guy to watch on Saturday.

Here's a little fluff piece from Kickoff, Cal's magazine.

I wish I had taped that 60 Minutes on American Somoa football. They grow some serious dudes down there. :)

I would LOVE Alualu in the second. I think you mentioned this in another thread, but nabbing Iupati in the first and Alualu in the second would be a damn good first two rounds.

    Ehm... read my sig... :p

I love the kid and I think he could be a great future replacement for Ellis and Douglas. He's got such a good motor...

He also is a high character guy, a thing Tanny seems to value.

He might want to put on another 5-10 pounds to be a 3-4DE but I think he'll have no problem doing that once in the pros...

Iupati + Alualu is a dram draft from a talent stand-point. From a untility stan-point though I'd prefer to trade down from the first which means good-bye Iupati...

Tyson is a guy i want in the draft saying that his stock has slipped so i would rather someone else in the 2nd like Kyle Wilson or Brandon Graham. Take one of those guys and find a way to get to trade up to get him in the 3rd.

When you can make a 8.5 minute highlight video of a 3-4 Dlinemen, you know he's good.

    I agree...I love Alualu's motor, but he's a mid-rounder.

It really sucks that we lack 3rd and 4th round picks because there's going to be a shit load of 3-4 linemen and pass rusher available in the middle of the draft. A lot of valuable role players will be missed if Tannenbaum doesn't get back into the middle rounds.

Could Rhodes be used as bait for a 3rd or 4th rounder?

I guess but if we trade Rhodes for a draft pick we'd still have to draft a S.

Mr.E in some mock drafts that already go down to the 3rd round the lower I've seen Alualu go is in the top 10-15 of rd 3... If you consider we have the 4th to last pick in the 2nd and that 3-4DE tend to fly up draft boards he isn't such a reach.

We should just overdraft a DL...that plus I think Arthur Jones and even Oghobaase are at least 2nd rounders...especially the more hyped Jones.

Trading back is a better option than overdrafting. I see what you're saying though...we really do need to get a GOOD 3-4 DE.

Well it's not so much overdrafting...so many people had Jones in the first until he got hurt...Oghobaase would have went in the first 2 rounds last year before some of his luster got taken off by staying (kind of like Greg Hardy)...both are IMO the top 3-4 DE prospects after Suh and McCoy, and I'm not a huge fan of McCoy as a 3-4 DE.

I know you're not high on Carlos Dunlap and Jared Odrick, but they'll go before Jones and Oghobaase.

We'll more than likely have a shot at getting Ogho at the back of the second round...unless he kills the competition at the combine.

I like Odrick quite a bit...just not to his hype level (yet)...I don't think he goes higher than Jones on Draft day.

Dunlap will go in the first to someone based purely on upside and not to a 3-4 team. I don't even buy that he weighs 290...CBNY on JI and I have guessed about 278...maybe 280.

The kid can play in any scheme. He did a damn good job on a three man defensive line this season.

He most definitely hasn't lived up the next Mario Williams hype, but he has the same measurables.

I don't give damn if weighs 275...Dunlap has the frame to get up to 300 without losing any athleticism.

There is no doubt, that Somoan football players play with a lot of pride, dedication and focus. The Somoan heritage has special qualities that transcend to the football field.

Family, values, religion..........are the staple of their background.

It doesn't hurt to be from a culture of tough strong as hell people.

Two equal players, I'll take the Samoan everytime.
