Everyone is being a little too whiney and pessimistic after this loss. First of all, it was a little too much to ask for a team with a rookie QB and a rookie coach to win three games on the road in the playoffs as a significant underdog. Plus, this last game was against the best player in the NFL who happens to play the most important position in the game.

Let's think about the last 5 weeks. This team was dead and buried after the Falcon loss. Instead, thinks break perfectly and the Jets win their last two games as every other team that needs to lose a game loses.

Then the Jets win two playoff games on the road. This is the first time a Jets team has won two playoff games since 1982.

The coach is a breath of fresh air and the players love playing for him.

Sanchez got some incredible experience and played his best football at the end of the season culminating with the best game of his short career in the AFC Championship game. That is a very good sign.

The defense is very good, even though it was on its heels today. Think about this defense with a healthy Jenkins, a healthy Scott (he hardly played today), a healthy Strickland, and hopefully a pass rusher from the draft.

This is a very young team. Only Fanaca, Woody, Jones (and we have Greene) and Ellis would be considered old.

The future is bright and this team accomplished far more than any Jets fan could have expected. Let's hold our heads high and be proud. This team is going to be a contender for years to come.

Agreed, and I think everyone on the team left everything on the field today. The team went from playing some incredibly sloppy football early in the year to being a well-oiled machine.

The reality is that the Colts are a phenomenal team and I think will win the Superbowl handedly. A big part of that is having a veteran QB who happens to be extremely talented and has had basically the same coaching staff his whole career. If the Jets can hold onto the current coaching staff and make sure Sanchez always has a great o-line in front of him, they could get there soon.

Cheers. Making the playoffs with a rookie HC/QB and without Jenkins ('08 D MVP) and Leon ('08 O MVP) was a huge achievement, let alone making it to the AFCC. Of course I am not content with the way our season ended, but I find consolation in the well-founded belief that this team will be great for years to come.

I'm not really seeing this negativity.

I see excited JETS fans after a loss playing the "Damn, what if" game
    or the "What happened" game
    which is totally understandable.

Some are a little upset that we were 30mins from the SB and are looking for answers.

I don't see they usual board crashing negativity...
I actually see more people saying the same thing you said.

    We're all excited!

Ya think? I don't. Certainly less than after any other loss this year. I do agree with your positives though.

I think the majority are excited about the future and extremely disappointed after the first 15 minutes of the game it looked very winnable, that thud coming back to reality was painful and surprising. I hope Ryan, Greene, Revis, and Sanchez are apart of the Jets for the future.

To be honest, I don't think it's as bad as I would have expected. There are still a few awful threads and awful posts being made, but they seem to be in the minority. As I said in the "I don't want to be a 1 year wonder" thread, SOJ is fucking dead. If any Jets fans still believe in that, they've been asleep all season and need to wake up. I'm not excited at this very moment and I'm very much inclined to say to hell with watching SB XLIV, but for the first time in my life, I'm proud of one of my teams after a disappointing result.

Yeah, I too disagree a bit jwws. I mean..I know where you are coming from and in a perfect fan world most fans would be able to sit back...take a deep breath...and say "man...at least we are going in a great direction".

But being a Jet fan isnt the perfect world..lol.

Taking that into consideration...Im damn near shocked at all the positive posts.

I cant remember a year when you can sit back and look at this roster and say "yeah..we need one of these and maybe one of these".

Surprisingly, the pit in my stomach left pretty fast because of the following:

    1. Sanchez grew up before our eyes. How lucky can this franchise be to give their rookie qb 3 quality playoff games worth of experience. I mean....talk about a gift. He still needs to work on freezing the safety...but that will come next year.

    2. Greene is the real deal. A bit concerned about the injury bug that seems to bite him...but he will eventually have to learn that you do not have to try to run over somebody everytime you get the ball.

    3. Keller became a money man. We have seen tight ends with talent come and go..but after a quiet start, largely because of a rookie qb, DK became money in the bank and a very clutch performer.

    4. Cotch...even more money in the bank with interest. The guy is quietly becoming a Cherbet type of receiver on 3rd down and owns the sideline. I cant remember the Jets having a receiver that has that type of radar where the sideline is...another mainstay for years to come.

    5. Offensive line...just needs some depth...but did a great job protecting Sanchez today...and over the past half season.

    6. Jenkins and Washington come back. One can only imagine if......forget it...it will drive you nuts...just be back ready come start of 2010.

    7. Sanchez is the real deal..it deserves to be said twice. When the Jets lucked out a bit and got into the playoffs...I remember posting about how the most important thing about it was a playoff game of experience. This guy is and will become...a deep ball threat like know one else in the league. I cant remember that last time we had somebody that was dead on deep...and he is dead on deep...with quick slants...this kid is the goods.

    8. 4 across. With one year in this system under their belt...the future for Pace, Thomas, Scott and Harris can only get better. With an addition of a more pass rushing threat to go along with the return of Jenkins...and the great depth that will create with Devito, Poh..etc....we are set here for the next 3 years at least.

    9. Ryan. Thanks for all the compliments you threw around about your defense..but it needs some help after the front 7. Having your safety Rhodes lock down some pretty tough Tight Ends is nice...but this guy couldnt help an old lady across the street...let alone a mistake by a corner/linebacker behind coverage. Too little too late is what comes to mind when I think of him.

Bottom line is we are in great shape for the future. Great shape. This run gave our young guys and coach more experience than anyone could have dreamed of.

People like to talk about the biggest game. If it was all lollipops & gumdrops chat how realistic would that be?

Fact is, this game was winnable. We were beating the shit out of them for 28 minutes. Then we collapsed. Shit happens. We take note and move on. To point out our shortcomings isn't negative...it's the first step to improvement.

You know I was going to type most of this out as my reply. But I have to go to work in 4 hours and you said it better then my tired ass could.

I will add that The Jets took it to the Colts for at least a half of football. You can see that this team has the goods or the makings of a championship caliber team, with a championship caliber coach. With a few tweaks/adjustments of the roster, who knows what can happen.

Sanchez maturing will alone mean 2-4 more wins next year. The Jets are going to hampered by free agency with this collective bargaining agreement. Going with the track record of the scouting dept. and FO I can't wait to see what happens come draft UFA time. If they can add 2-4 starting/depth caliber players look out.

For once in our lifetime the future look ridiculously bright.

"Anyone who ever built an empire or changed the world sat where you are right now, and it's because they sat there that they were able to do it."

I didn't like Up in The Air, though.

I actually thought I was gonna see a lot more negative threads.

I'm happy to see that a lot of fans feel the way I do and are excited for the future.

I'm proud of this team and it was a great season, hopefully we can just build from this and the New York Jets are hoisting the Lombardi Trophy in the near future!!

You make an excellent point about the scouting dept.

While there has been much praise for the front office on all of these trade ups..and boy oh boy..its deserved...the depth in certain positions is the downside of having 3 to 5 picks the past couple years.

What we got is stars at certain positions..and journeymen fill ins at other positions...and it would be nice to get a couple of full drafts under our belts. Not MT's style so far...but it would be nice.

I totally agree, it's good that everyone is somewhat satisfied. It was a great season and more then most Jets fans could have dreamed off!! And we've got something to look out for because the AFC east is not going to be a easy win anymore for the Pats!!

I agree that the long-term building blocks appear to be there for the Jets. We need to be careful of assuming that next year is THE year because a lot can happen between seasons. The Jets are not quite there as far as being a complete team and they will need to have a good draft while filling out their roster with some decent Free Agents.

Agree 100%.If we fall for the "this year we made the AFCC, next year we are bound for Super Bowl" theory, we could face some very unpleasant surprises. Success is not guaranteed, and front office should be very careful with their decisions from now on. Getting from SOJ to the AFCC may prove to be an easier task than getting to the next level.

I agree...while this loss is absolutely gut wrenching, it was not a SOJ loss.

We left it all out there and were beat by greatness. Manning that douche, is arguably the best QB in the league and possibly of all time.

Our future is bright...and that's all I can hope for.

Well said ... I am sorry we lost, BUT ... Mark did not play like a rookie the last 5 weeks, he showed a lot to me ... I beleive that after the middle of the season where he was a turnover machine, he threw 2 picks in the last 5 games ... I'll take that ... We gave it our best shot without of "O" and "D" MVP's of last year ... We had 2 guys with broken hands playing and SG gets banged up and can't play in the 2nd half.

Those aren't excuses, just the facts of life in the NFL ... We were not able to field our best team to try and knock off the Colts, we made it a game anyways ...

The future looks pretty bright to me ...

  20. I'm upset on acouple fronts....

    1. You don't get many opportunities to make this far..albeit with a 17-6 late first half lead on the road against the # 1 seed. Sure the future APPEARS bright..but didn't we say the same thing in 04' before Chad's many shoulder injuries? Didn't see say the same thing in 98 before Vinny Achilles ripped? I'd love to think we're gonna go 11-5 or 12-4 for the next decade and get acouple more shots...but there are still residuals from past heartbreak.

    2. The way opposing fans, refs and the media acted toward us the past few weeks really left me w/ a bitter taste. refs made BS calls against us all through the playoffs. And opposing fans constantly had to rain on our parade. When you add in Francesa hanging a hometown team which GREATLY contributes to his advertising revenue out to dry...I'm just sick of this animosity toward the team. i wanted to shut everyone up.

Now i'm starting to think that will never happen
