Super Bowl 3 will be aired in it's entirety at 8:30pm tonight, on NFL Network's "Super Bowl Classics" series. I myself, being a younger generation Jets fan, have never seen it. I'm excited. :metal:
Buy this: http://www.amazon.com/NFL-History-New-York-Jets/dp/B000PY52DQ I must have seen SBIII at least 10 times, and I'll be watching it again tonight
Watching it for the 1st time tonight. I'm 39 yrs old, been a Jet fan my whole life. I was born 18 months after this game. Pretty amazing that I havent seen it but can't think of when it was ever on. Anyway, first impressions. Snell was a beast. Very quick to the hole and around the end, very powerful back. #24 CB Samples wasn't too shabby either. Jets DL was stout! Namath didn't really throw much. Reminds me of our current offense.
Yeah, Snell was a beast. Scored first touchdown of the game. Funny though seeing him get oxygen from an oxygen machine on the sidelines. Didn't know they had that back then.
He ran all the way down the field on that drive. Ground and pound just like the 2009 NY Jets! I really like their play design. Pro set. Namath sold those off tackle quick draws perfectly. OL was bulldozing people.
Yeah, and these positions they mentioned during the broadcast... Safety Man, Flanker. Haha, funny stuff. The announcing was unbearable!
Yea this is only the second time I've seen this and also about to buy my first jersey, thinking about making it Snell 41 who i have to say Shonn reminds me of ALOT
Watched this at the Hospital For Special Surgery's rec room when I was rehabing from scoliosis surgery. Thats for the heads up.
Growing up, I was led to believe that Namath single handedly propelled the Jets to victory. Having watched it now, the Defense and Matt Snell were the real stars of the game. Grinding down the clock and keeping the Colts from scoring. Which of course makes me feel real good about tomorrow. What do we do best?
Im watching the game right now too, it is a amazing how much the game has changed... especially when the receiver are in a 3 point I have always found that funny... Its awesome to actually see this game because I have only seen highlights of it but as much as the game has changed you guys are right there are a lot of parallels to the 2009/10 Jets! Is it sunday yet??????
You could tell how Gowdy and DeRogatis were AFL guys. Curt was driving me nuts calling it the 'third period' but gave constant props to the offensive line. I think there is a parallel CJ.
Great game.. just finished watching (west coast - BC Canada). I'm actually a misplaced chowderhead from Springfield MA., who's putting aside his internecine animosity, and hoping the J-E-T-S stomp the Colts butt. I got $50 bucks on it (ok... granted, it's Canadian money ;-)
16-7 almost 3 minutes remaining - Colts go for 4th and 5 at the Jets 10. wtf? field goal is a no brainer, then do the onside kick. weird.
Great to finally see this game. I never realized how much the Jets dominated throughout. Let's do it again today Boys. Let's Go JETS!!!
Actually, that's the first time I've ever seen that game through. And ya... the Jets did dominate throughout - no matter what the announcers were hoping for. Christ... they were stroking Unitas like a $3 dollar whore, right up til the forkin' end.
From a historical viewpoint, right at the end of the game, Curt Gowdy said to tune in for President Johnson's farewell to the nation in the State of the Union speech two days later. Richard Nixon would be sworn in the following Tuesday. A few weeks later the Mets would report from spring training in preparation for a season that would culminate in a championship upset over another team from Baltimore.
