There was a clip this past week from the Cincy game where the Defense made a big play and the whole defense was high fiving and hugging and you can see Gholston almost like an outsider trying to get in on some of the fun....

Then he just walks away like a kid without a friend.....

I almost fee bad for him but, he doesn't seem like a Football player - He doesn't seem like he's even part of it all.....

Maybe another offseason and he comes out like Gangbusters next year?

No way. Can't beat Tony Mandarich. Ultimate bust right there.

one more year. he is not gonna beat out thomas or pace, those guys are coming on strong. i remember when thomas was considered an absolute bust and now he is very serviceable.

Vernon GHolston has been nothing but a let down so far...everyone knows that..but who knows if he ends up coming around..he has been a late bloomer to football in general so maybe it might take him a little time to blosom in the pros as well... the only thing that you can feel good about it is this: if we were to have any coach that could turn this kid into a stud.we have him...and rex ryan is the only shot this kid has...he better be taking notes alot of them..and one of the those notes hit should lite on fire and stick under his ass...he needs to get mean real quick..he has the physical skills..learning rush moves isn't that tough...he just needs to light that fire...I hope Rex can help.

people forget he is still a kid.we forget people are human and sometimes they don't get "it" as quickly as others if ever. Transitioning to a new position and level of competition has set him back a bit. people have to grow up sometimes to become better. he has the work ethic and physical skills, he just needs to develop the mental toughness and familiarity with his role.

fact is our LB crew is pretty good. Bryan Thomas has played pretty damn well all season and with harris, pace and scott there's no room for gholston right now and i don't think hes going to play well until he has playing time consistently. I thought he played pretty well in the games pace was out..his role seemed to be to eat up blockers and open up gaps for other players.

the rookie scale and its retarded rules have made gholstons life hell. i think he's going to be a decent player in this league. it just hasn't clicked for him. i am going to keep saying it, if he was a 3rd round pick we'd be on this guys side and believing in him more.

i don't think he'll ever be great, but he can be a 5-6 sack type of player when he hits his prime assuming that's his role in the defense

Mandarich actually started for the Colts when Manning was drafted.

Gholston can't see the field because he's god awful. He can't even spell Pace or Thomas for a play or two, he's that terrible.

Read the last paragraph of the article over and over again.

You'll get why he'll never do shit.

    Afraid, 100%, mess up.

to say that he's going to feel that for the rest of his playing days is a pretty strong prediction. he's young, we expect athletes who are drafted high to have a certain mental toughness right away. for some it takes time to transition and develop more than others.

Some people develop it, but only those who care enough. He's not an eddy curry who just doesn't give a shit about basketball or can't stay in shape. Something has to click for him. It hasn't yet and that sucks...and it may never happen but to say it won't is just us being angry at that fact he was the 6th pick and guaranteed <x> amount of dollars

it was clearly a bad decision by the front office and a much bigger impact player could have drafted, but you can't blame him when he was already labeled "raw" coming out of school.

Except that you're completely incorrect. Gholston has spelled Thomas, in the playoffs no less.

Has Gholston been a complete disappointment so far? Absolutely. And anyone who says otherwise is either a liar or his mother. But people on this board have called Bryan Thomas a complete bust. They've been willing to trade Kerry Rhodes for a 5th round pick. They've been ready to ship Schottenheimer off to Buffalo. They've been ready to send Thomas Jones packing to Seattle. D'Bust was a commonly written moniker.

I could go on and on about people this site have labeled "complete busts" that proved otherwise. Gholston is not where a high first round pick should be at this point. Again, no one can legitimately argue otherwise. However, the team is behind him. And really, if the guy would just stop playing in his head he has the natural talent to be a very good player. He's made some tackles over the past couple months. That's nothing to write home about, but it's something. Let's be honest, if anyone is ever going to be able to squeeze talent out of him, it'll be Rex.

If he hasn't done significantly more on the field by this time next year, I'll join in the "bust" talk. Until then though, Rex has an offseason where he's not installing a new system to give some focus to the maturation process of Gholston. I'm waiting to see what he can do with it.

Can't start him off at Equipment Manager .... He needs to learn the ropes ... Water Boy is a good start

( That being said, I sure would LOVE to see him "Get It" and show us he has a clue as to how to play NFL Football )

We can speculate about whether Gholston can make a valuable contribution to the team one day but I think we can all agree that any possibility of him being a star/perennial pro bowler is completely out the window at this point.

You guys are unbelievable!!! The dude has clearly progressed in his two yrs. Last yr he had 13 combined tackles. He had 17 tackles this yr. Get a clue guys. The dude is progressing and will reach 100 tackles by the time Lions win the Super bowl.

C'mon Alio. I like your confidence, but Gholston hasn't shown enough to where we can say 'ok, one more yr n he's there'. If he was a 6th rounder, maybe keep him. But 6th overall may just end up in the FA next yr. I hope he does cuz Jets can't keep him the following yr when it might be a capped yr.

    AYFKM???

Monday's lede in the sports section will be...

"Mark Sanchez' 300 yard 4 TD coming out party against the Colts would be more worthy of
discussion, if it were not overshadowed by Vernon Gholston's 4 Sack, 2 Int (1 RT for TD), 5 TFL (including a safety), 3 Forced Fumble (2 Recovered for TD) performance....

Coach Rex Ryan described the performance as 'the light coming on for a pretty good kid',and hesitated to say 'I told you so'...

"Pace says Jets believe in Gholston"?

Shit. I think I need to believe in Pace first, before I can even begin to believe in Gholston. We need more plays from you big guy. U haven't done much in the POs, so I believe he's due for a big game and hopefully, this weekend will be it.
