Yeah . . . and then they SHUTOUT the Giants (who put up 41 the week before) in the Superbowl (remember, the 7 points the Giants managed to score came on a kickoff return)
I'm sorry guys, I don't care what the statistics say, our defense is no where near as dominant as the 2000 Ravens D was. Let's keep it real.
Numbers only say so much When it comes down to it, that 2000 Ravens defense was out of this world, while ours, being quite good, isn't in the same ballpark
Here is something to chew on. According to ESPN's Sportsnation, as of now 41% of Indiana believe they have the best defense left in the playoffs and 63% believe that the dolts D is better than the Jets.
The Ravens caught all the breaks in the playoffs, schedule-wise. Pats didn't make it, and they got a fluke Giants team in the SB. Jets will be a much greater story if they get by the Colts and Vikes/Saints. It would be more comparaable to the Pats getting past the Steelers and Rams...
You forgot the Raiders. If the tuck call goes the other way then Bledsoe is probably your QB in 2002 and Belichik is coaching in Cleveland again (maybe) by 2005. It's amazing the things that history turns on.
I don't think this NYJ defense is quite in the territory of the 2000 Ravens, but they are definitely one of the better defenses that we've seen in recent years, especially vs the pass.
Yeah, against the pass they are one of the all-time great defenses at this point. Obviously they have up to two more games against great QB's to continue making that point.
The problem was that, even with Almighty Jenkins, the run D looked suspect more than often - at times against less-than-respectable offenses, that is. Other than Jenkins, Jets do not have anyone in DL that commands double teams. (Remember Seymour?) As a result, a couple of OL ends up advancing to the second level, disrupting the LB play. Of course, this year's LB crop doesn't even match up well with 2000 Ravens, so there you go. Busted run D. I am concerned about this, because the current Jets LB corp is not good at shedding the block. As long as that part of the LB play stays unchanged, we shouldn't expect much improvement in the run D, even with Jenkins return. If at all, watch how Colts LBs and DLs shed their blocks - like they did in last week's game. Maybe Jets can find a tip or two about shedding the blocks. P.S. Here I warn again. Colts D is nothing to scoff at. Okay - they didn't put up the kind of numbers Jets put up. Does that matter though? They play their version of ferocious D, and their D also attacks, much like ours. The key to neutralizing their defense on the run game is to make sure that each block assignment is followed through till the end of the play - and every blocker stays engaged without losing his assignment. If the blockers lose their men, then Colts defenders will make us pay with busted plays. Ravens had a lot of that because their blockers couldn't keep their defenders engaged.
