I have been looking at all of the comments before and after the draft concerning the running back position, and I am wondering why people are ready to throw Curtis away? I know he turned 33 this year but, the guy is the biggest warrior I have ever seen and I do expect him to have a Curtis year?.320 carries and 1200 yards. Before the draft I was amazed on how many people thought that we should take a RB in round one?I now that we got Washington on day 2 but I really see him as a Kevin Faulk kind of guy, he is not the long term answer after Curtis. I think that tells you what the coaching staff is going to do this year in way of carries. I think that Curtis is the clear cut #1 back on the roster this year, expect to see Houston, Washington get some ?breather or change of pace? carries. I don?t know if Blaylock makes it out of training camp, I do like him but think he was a ?system back? in KC, nothing more. I think we address the RB in next years draft or in FA, but Curtis is our man this year and possibly next year as well. :buffaloblows:
Heart of a Warrior, Spirit of a Leader Legs of a chicken.... Not gonna happen... Love Curtis, Want him to get 1500+ if he can but......just not gonna happen.
It's a rebuilding year with a new coaching staff. The last thing they're gonna do is push Curtis Martin, HoF'er out the door. Imagine the backlash from fans. They'd let him play if he had one leg amputated. Next year, if he's still around, then you maybe think about taking a marquis name at back. For now, it's just getting serviceable backs that can lighten his load a bit.
Isn't this Curtis Martins last year? I thought he said at the beginning of last season, that he wanted to play 2 more years? We'll this would be his last if I remember correctly...
The runningback position will probably be platooned this year, with whomever the CS thinks is hot getting the start. That's how I see it happening, anyway.
Legs of a chicken... Hmm.... think that has something to do with Herm having him chase them in practice?hmy:
I think they should give Curtis the job at the beginning of the season if he does as well as or better than Houston or whomever is competing. If he can still run, why not keep him in all year? I will hate to see him leave the NFL. Great RB.
I think he said something like definitely two more years, then he would reevaluate. I don't think Curtis is the type to hang on too long, though. I think he'll play this year, if he likes what we're doing, then maybe come back in a Bettis type, backup role, hopefully AFTER taking a paycut.
The Only way he comes back strong and gets 1,000 yards is if Houston gets the ball once every four downs our so then curtis will be fresh and wont come on the feild with these chicken legs you speak of
curtis just had the longest off season of his carear. he was pissed he didnt finish last season. he knows this could/will be his swan song.he will split carries, but i expect a strong year from curtis.
I think runningback will evolve into a multi player position unless we get lucky and get a feature back with a early to mid round pick. Versatility may be found in multiple backs rather than in just one. Less injury risk and cap friendly as well. All will have the following traits, high character, team first, non fumblers and able to pick up a blitz. Variety will come in speed, size, and pass catching.
I really think Martin will thrive in this system. I know that we are no the Pats part II....but look how well Cory Dillon has done in the "system" he was put in. I think we can get one more solid, PB type, year of production from Curtis. I have more concerns in the reciving corps than I do with thr RB's
Try basing your judgment on the year before last year when he actually was able to do his job behind a line that let him.
I totally agree....he still has moves and GLIDS like no other back. If the line can create holes, he will be able to do some damage on the 2nd level, because of his vision....the other backs we have, dont have anywheres near the vision Curtis does :martin:
Corey Dillion slowed down and looked awful last year that's why they drafted Maroney. The clock has killed Dillon and Martin, time to move on.
The future isn't with Martin but that doesn't mean that we can't ride him once last year. No reason why he can't get 1000+ yards while splitting carries with Washington, Houston, Blaylock or Moore. :martin:
