Not really. The Dolphins got us a couple of times but other than that we've pretty much shut screen plays down.
I don't understand the chip on all your guys' shoulders who've joined this board in the last couple of days. I haven't seen one Jet fan bash your team. We all know you have a great team. Every thread is just a bunch of San Diego posters whining about how great you are. We fucking get it.
the sky is blue & the grass is green... I get it, I won't bother to re-post his stats, but I'll assume you already know that Phillip Rivers is fantastic against the blitz, and the screen game is generally wide open against blitz happy teams... that's the trade off you make for applying pressure is that someone is generally not covered.
have you been paying attention to these forums much the last several days? There have been equal parts bashing, and homerism on both sides, but I don't think I have been involved in too much of either one. If I have created the perception that I don't respect your team, or that I am "bashing you" I apologize. that is not my intent. I could go on the Chargers board to do that. What I can't do on the Chargers board is have discussion with opposing fans, and get those opposing points of view... an opponents perception of the game, and our team. That is why I am here...
The problem is you guys coming in here thumping your chest about how great you guys are. You don't think you'll get a negative reaction from that?
I wasn't talking about you per se, but the few threads I've been involved in have said the same thing. I (we) enjoy the opposing fans. God forbid, I don't think there was one Bengals fan here last week. My only point was, you'd have to be living on another planet if you didn't know how good the Chargers are. They were my pick to go to the SB going in. Now, I hope I'm wrong. Either way, there's going to be 5 minutes left in this game and either team will have a chance to win it.
Apparently you needed someone to tell you what color they were: Doesn't seem like you knew the difference when you made that post, smart guy. Yes, that is the same argument that Saints fans were using before the Jets held their offense to 10 points and had Brees running for his life. This is the luxury that singling up a corner on the opposition's top receiver gives you. An extra safety. I don't expect the Jets to double up on Gates, either. They will do their best to get into the backfield and put Rivers on his ass, just like they have done all season, earning the rank of top defense in many categories. Will it work? Well, it's probably a long shot to earn them a victory against the Chargers, but a lot of San Diego fans seem to think this game is going to be a slam-dunk because they have 'a lot of offensive weapons', as if the Jets hadn't seen that already this year. If the Chargers win on Sunday, it will more likely be because the Jets' rookie QB does not play well and gives them turnovers, not because the Chargers are lighting up the Jets defense.
On the contrary... I was simply comparing what I felt to be the difference between the Jets, and the Giants team since someone made the comparison. So the crux of the argument here seems to be... What happens when the "unstoppable force" meets the "immovable object" The answer... hopefully an epic football game...
Yes, people have been contentious on both sides, but please show me one person on our side guaranteeing victory. Probably a full 50% of the Charger posters here have posted something along the lines of "go ahead and try to run the ball. It won't work when you're down 17/20/30 points." The assumption that our defense will allow us to get blown out is laughable. The posts that I've seen on our side have been defending our ability to control your offense and keep us in the game. We don't have any delusions about being the favorites or even being likely to win. We just recognize we have a chance. You, and a few other posters, have acknowledged that. The hostility is reserved for the rest.
Come on now, that's just silly. I don't see alot of Charger fans that think this game is a slamdunk. Is it possible that it will be a blowout? Sure, but the team has been overconfident too many times in the past. From a Charger fan perspective one very good sign this postseason is the absolute quiet surrounding the team, that is new. It is also possible that the Jets will simply outplay the Chargers and come out with a victory. If Sanchez doesn't play well, in all likelihood it will be because he is forced into playing catch up. Here's to an close, exciting injury free game.
I haven't read through this entire thread, so I don't know if this has been pointed out or not. The Chargers have allowed 4.5 YPR this season. The Jets should be able to pound the ball and control the game. If they can run on SD, they will win the game.
ok. page 2 of the "Chargers favored by 9 points" thread. someone named NYJ2K10 posted: "We're gonna win the game. I guarentee it." apart from that, some dude named Royal Tee has posted a few comments that were ignorant at best. That said, you are mostly right... there has been more chest thumping by Charger fans than Jets fans.
Shonn Greene has the potential to be a special running back in the NFL. He as SO much explosiveness and virtually never goes down on first contact. I honestly think that he as the potential to become the best player on the team and the best draft pick of the Tannenbaum era. (And yes, that includes Revis)
Oh man, stick around a while. You'll learn about that NYJ2K10 guy. He's an eternal optimist, and not the sharpest tool in the shed. He also had an inexplicable period of time in which he posted as his "cousin", a mentally retarded Giants fan named "ElitheGreat".
I'm not sure if any of these chargers fans actually know how good our pass defense is. They obviously know that its #1 in the league, but they may not know by how much: Allowed 2459 yards this season, just under 500 YARDS LESS THAN SECOND PLACE (the bills, who noone threw on because their run D was so bad) Allowed 8 TD, second place is 14. On Sunday, we'll see how good Philip Rivers really is.
