According to Adam Schefter being the Jets are one of the final 8 teams left we only can sign a FA if we lose a FA. He says this is due to the uncapped year next year. Haven't heard that before but he's good with the info.
probably not happening. Im sure we can let someone walk who really isn't that much of a loss. Mission accomplished.
There aren't many good FAs availabe.... Most teams can make them restircted FA and match the offers..... Also, we have good YOUNG players at almost every key positions.... I can see this team run good years in AFC with a few good draft picks -- WE did really well for last few years drafts.
If we lose next week we can sign 1 FA for 5+ mil, if we win then we can only sign a FA if we lose one like signing Julius Peppers if we can't re-sign Izzo.... http://bleacherreport.com/articles/316844-nfl-teams-and-players-will-suffer-in-an-uncapped-2010 We can get Leon, Smith, & Edwards for $9 million minimum but with no cap we can frontload their contracts in 2010 in case the cap comes back in 2011. Which we'll have the space after dumping Gholston's & possibly Lito's $10 million contract. http://www.nyjetscap.com/salary10.html
I'll worry about the Free Agents after the playoffs.....I only give a shit about the current NY Jets team at the moment.
Shitty rule. Maybe necessary in light of the lack of a cap though, in order to maintain parity. Anyone know if cutting a guy counts? Cause the ghost could net us one anyway. edit:^Jinx, you owe me a beer:beer:
I have looked into this uncapper year stuff a lot. Basically, Leon has no choice, neither does B Edwards. They are Jets next yeas if they like it or not. Players that would have been unrestricted FA's next year are now RFA. The team that owns thewm can match any $ offer and keep them. If they let an RFA go, it means darft pick compensation. Maybe tomorrow I will post more of what I've learned, but forget FA's next year. The roster we have now is the rosster we'll have ext year, except for very low level FA's and Draft picks. Leon and Edwards are Jets for 2010
This is only Meachem's 3rd year. He will be playing next to Colston for a while if the Saints can afford it. Moore, OTOH, could be what Clowney is supposed to be, and for some reason, isn't. Edwards-Cotch-Moore. I like.
Take care of our own. We have plenty of talent. Draft well, and we have a great infrastructure. We don't need to spend a lot in free agency, though it would be nice in an uncapped year.
