With the release of Avatar and all the news out of CES about "3DTV" in 2010, it got me thinking about watching the NFL in 3D. New 3D televisions will go on sale this year and it's likely next years Superbowl will be televised in 3D. For anyone who has seen Avatar in IMAX 3D, this sounds very exciting and it sure it a great time to be alive with all this amazing technology we're being spoiled with. Sony and FIFA stated they will broadcast the World Cup in 3D this summer. ESPN will also launch it's 3D network this year and will debut with a World Cup soccer match. Fox Sports broadcasted the BCS Championship game today live in 3D. I'm excited, this is bigger than going from black & white to full technicolor!
Guys, 3DTV has been in the works for years and available for a few years now. 3DTV's whether capable or ready have been on the market. 1 set I was going to get until they decided not to release the larger one was the Mitsubishi LaserVue. I have a 10 year old 65"HD and was waiting for the LaserVue73" but they haven't release the 73" yet... I'm actually waiting to hear what Mitsu will say @ CES just to plan accordingly.
You're right Tee, the tech has been around for a long time but the point of my post was about the 3D broadcasts, not the technology itself. If you want to get technical, 3D has been around since the 1800's and it was made popular in movie theaters in the late 70's. But seriously who cares about the tech right? Everyone just wants the content and that's what we should be excited about.
Not technical about 3D just that consumer sets w/3D aren't new this year. I agree w/ you on the aspect of Broadcasts in 3-D though. That's exciting. Also, don't know if you read last week that DirecTv announced to have a 3D channel this year.
