I had to go with Al Toon. He was one of the most gifted, fearless, and graceful receivers I have ever seen for the Jets. I have actually seen all the receivers on this poll play because I am ancient. Toon may have had a few more years with us if it were not for multiple concussions similar to the plight of Wayne.
This poll result reflects the average age of posters here. Maynard, and it isn't even close. Fortunately, the HoF voters are a whole lot smarter than posters on a Jets message board.
Played in 97 then went to Philly...I think he had couple of td's in that first seattle game with Parcells and that was it that year...
Well, the thread title says "Favorite all-time Receiver", while the OP says "Greatest" receiver. I don't think those two have to be the same, and I think the poll results can't be interpreted to mean one or the other (i.e. some might have voted for their favorite, while others for who they thought were the greatest).
I'm am old enough to have seen them all. The best wide receiver the Jets have EVER had is Al Toon. With all due respect to fans' personal favorites and the great ones from earlier on in Jets history, players like Walker, Chrebet, Johnson, Moore, Sauer and Maynard really do not come close to Toon in terms of overall talent, athleticism and ability. Toon was among the best wideouts I have ever seen play the game period and had he been on a better team like, for example, the 49ers of Montana and Young, I have no doubt he'd have compiled the stats that would have placed him among the all time greats and into the Hall of Fame. He was so exciting to watch and more often than not, he would make the first would-be tackler miss due to his tremendous agility. It makes me sick to think of how many times a certain cement-footed QB of ours brutally hung him out to dry on passes that ultimately assured his premature, professional demise.
Had Keyshawn played with us for more than 4 seasons, and not talked all that s*** as/after he walked out the door, I would choose him. I think he was one of the best catching receivers out there - when you threw it to him, he just caught it. However, Wayne gets the nod here. True clutch and true class. (Though, I'm 25 and have only been following the Jets since '98.)
Don Maynard was the bets Jets Receiver ever. Wayne can win the popularity contest in part because alot of younger fans don't know who Don Maynard is. But the fact is that Maynard is a HOFer and a SB Champion one of the best receivers to ever play in the AFL.
Agree completely. Before Toon I always thought Sauer was the best a better all around reciever than Maynard. Toon was in a class by himself and one of the top 2 or 3 talents who ever played for this team.
