nothing was cutesy at all, but the nickname disappears when I see more of that all next season. The right philosophy has now been put into place and its beautiful.
I know that a lot of people are going to say that just because everything fell our way tonight that it's a copout to say that Schotty called a good game. I beg to differ. The playcalling was as level-headed as I've seen from him all year. I'm by no means a Schotty fan just because of this one game, but I think he deserves his just desserts for this win.
If everything goes right doesnt that mean he called a good game. Sometimes things can go wrong and still be a good called game but regardless of how everything went right its got to be a well called game. Especially when you score and control the clock like that.
Really the difference is that the Jets put their hard hats on and punished the Bengals physically. Be it play calling or what not this is the way you play football at the end of the season in frigid conditions. If the Jets played like this from week 6 on they would be 11-5. Oh well..........
the only gimmick stuff he did today was the wildcat stuff with b. smith. those plays are great because even if it gets stopped the potential for a 10 yard loss is at almost 0. when we talk about cute we are talking about a shovel pass in the red zone. a double reverse on 1st down after finally stringing together a few first downs. those things are cute and destroy drives. today schotty stayed out of his own way and stuck with the simple stuff that was working.
Brian has had a good year playcalling and developing a rookie QB. sure he's made head scrtaching decisions now and then but all OC's do. he gets way too much blame when we lose.
Yikes. That's tough. Kudos to my fellow fans for giving Schotty a thumbs up. He was innovative and creative with his playcalling. Simply let Sanchez manage the game. The option play with Richardson offset, Smith in the pistol with Shone Green at tailback was a thing of beauty. Now lets be fair, if Brian S. gets all full of himself, it can be a problem. But this was an A-1 offensive game plan. The defense: Simply superb. A joyous night for sure.
I think Rex has given Shotty a series of coloured bands: Red: call a run play Orange: call a run play Green: do a fake punt Should work pretty well.
Hopefully it wasn't great because they threw away the playbook once we went up 17-0. People are stupidly saying only Cincinnati didn't show everything.
The first couple of drives mixed it up pretty nicely with some high percentage passes. We only had 8 completed passes for the night so this game was all about domination at the line. It was nice to see a good mix of Greene, Smith and Jones throughout the game. It was especially nice to see a mix of their use on first down plays. It was definitely nice to see us stay with what was working until it was stopped - which was never. Next week will be a different story. We will have to throw a little more. If we stay with the high percentage passes and continue to mix up the runs, we should do well.
It was brilliant play calling ? who saw that coming? First he ran it up the middle; then just when you think they might catch on ? he starts running it up the middle. Once the bungles start to adjust to that ? he goes back to running it up the middle again. Fool proof.
