As I've now said twice, expecting the Jets to be able to rest starters and expecting them to lose are both equally dumb. Unfortunately, Jets fans don't seem to have the intellectual capacity to deal in probabilities.
Which puts you in that group. Way to bash yourself. I don't even know who you are responding to after reading this again. All I said is I don't expect a blowout. I do expect a win. I agree, I don't see the Jets resting starters because I don't think they will have that big of a lead. And I don't expect them to lose. So I am not sure who you are talking to.
He does have a point man. I think Ryan for sure will sit Jenkins, Leon, Kellen and most likely Gholston. They all need a rest.
Yup. This is not a good matchup for us. I think the decisive factor is our D is much better, but their game is the correct style to pay against us.
The only way a starter will come out of this game is if we're up 3 TDs and turn the ball over with 0:01 left on the clock in the fourth quarter. You don't rest starters when you've put yourself into a must-win game in week 17.
Please stop discussing big leads and sitting starters. Ridiculously high expectations make the Jets tough to watch. Let's just HOPE for a win and expect no more.
Are you fucking kidding me!? we FINALLY get a chance to redeem our season with a win that will get us into the playoffs and you want to sit some of our starters for the second half thus risking our going into the playoffs!?
Let's see upside: rest some players, get them a little fresher, maybe avoid an injury Downside: rest all the players for 7 months, have them be completely fresh and uninjured by training camp. Oh and miss the playoffs. Are you serious? The downside risk is too big. If there's 7 minutes left and we're winning 20-0, there might be an argument to sit some of the offensive players. The defense, maybe if there's 1:45 left and we're up 17 and Cincy has backups in with no time outs. Otherwise, the concept that we can afford to sit anyone is ridiculous. Cincy and Indy have earned that right. We have not.
What's more important: Beating Cincy scrubs with our starters 45-3 -or- Beating Cincy scrubs with our starters plus 'some' of our scrubs 24-10 and taking the opportunity to get some of our starters some rest plus sitting a few others to avoid late game injury caused by Cincy scrubs who don't know how to tackle
This right here is the truth. Cincy will sit its offensive stars at best. The defense isn't going to be populated by backups, and the defense has been winning games this season. Cincy has a ridiculously low point differential for a 10 - 5 team because they've been winning games on defense. Since our offense has scored even fewer points, I seriously doubt we take a huge lead into the 2nd half. 21 - 3 wouldn't sit the starters IMO, and I doubt we'll get to 21 - 3.
The only teams to score more than 20 on Cincy this season: Green Bay Houston Minnesota San Diego Which of those offenses do you think we're most comparable to? We're going to somehow run up 45 on them? We're not going to be playing their defensive scrubs, either. Make no mistake, this will be a 24 - 10 kind of game even if Palmer, Ocho, and Benson sit and we play our starters, unless our defense somehow scores 3 TDs. Given the fact that their primary backups are JT O'Sullivan, Andre Caldwell, and Larry Johnson, I wouldn't count on it. This is NOT another 'rookie in his first game action' situation again.
The only thing that matters is winning. If we somehow got to 21-3 what makes you so sure our backups would keep the game 24-10? We have to keep the starters in until there's no way possible for the Bengals to win.
No team pulls the all their starters regardless of the game situation. Its just not possible. You can probably sit out 6-8 players at most. We, on the other hand, will not sit anyone out unless it is the fourth quarter and we have atleast a 3 possession lead. Anything less than that and you are testing that number one D minus its starters.
Because clearly JT O'Sullivan, a former starter for the 49ers, is no better than Painter. It works well as long as you can ignore reality.
Now we don't want to risk a Sunday Night Miracle either do we? Lets take the lead first. Its not a gimme game regardless of who plays. It never is after the Bucs beat the Saints.
The only thing we'd rest would be our playbook. U don't want to give them everything as long as you are winnig, cuz they certainly aren't going to give us a clue as to what might happen the following wk.
I dont think we will ever be up enough to want to pull our starters anyway. Ocho Cinco already said hes not coming out of the game.
Especially now, as it seems that Cincy is not going to just roll over. I heard 1 Cincy beat reporter say if the 3rd seed is open they are going 110% after that. That would require Houston beating the Pats, but BB hates us sooo much he might just rest his players to make Cincy play us hard.
