Here is my "Jets-related" list of a few things I am thankful for this holiday season:

1.) We finally have a franchise quarterback. Thinking back to previous years (including last) I never felt as confident in this position as I do at the moment. Mark Sanchez, whether you like him or not, will be given a chance to lead our team into the future. Whether he succeeds or not is still in question but just the hope that he can become the "next great thing" is good enough for me.

2.) We still have a shot at the playoffs! There is nothing better in the dead of winter than important football on Sundays. I know this Sunday each and every one of us will be glued to a TV set from 1-7:30 hoping that our Jets can make the playoffs.

3.) Our coach has a personality that can rival anybody in the entire league and he has infused that into our team. As frustrating as this season has been, this team has become fun to watch. The defense is suffocating and confident and it is fun to watch them each and every week. Even press conferences have become fun under Rex Ryan as he is always bound to say something interesting.

4.) This board. I spend more time on this board that I would like to admit. This is a community that is more than just about Jets football. It extends to people losing their jobs, telling funny stories, and helping people through tough times. It is hard to explain how this works figuring most of us on this board have never met each other. In fact, most of us get in arguments every day about football and the Jets. However, when it comes down to it, people on this board are compassionate about others and about the Jets.

The Jets talk on this board is something that I am glad I found. I came here in 2006 stupid and uninformed about the Jets. I thought I knew things but I didn't realize how much more others new. This board has transformed me into a much more knowledgeable Jets fan and I love the opportunity to talk to you all about the Jets (well at least most of you).

I hope everyone has a great Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Well, it's not Thanksgiving, but nice post. I'm thankful for all those things too. And of course, for Darrelle.

If you can't see the talent on this roster, you're beyond retarded. I predicted 8-8 this season, after the 3-0 start I drank some koolaid and said OK we can do 10-6. But realistically, having the best defense in the LEAGUE and a dirty run game confirms we have talent all over. Sanchez's problems are problems we all should have expected. I love the direction the NYJ are headed, and lastly, praise be to fucking Revis Christ.

How many greyhounds have you had Greyhound?:breakdance:

But I feel pretty much as you do when it comes to the team and this board. I've only been a member for a relatively short time, but I find myself here more & more.

Of course when golf starts up I'll not be here as much, if at all.

    Just kidding. Golf sucks.

I thought Greyhound's post was good.

I can accept where things are right now with our team. Regardless of where we are this year, I fully expect us to raise the bar next year.

The fact that our defense is so good means that Sanchez doesn't have to be the second coming of Peyton. He just has to be a good game manager. That makes things much easier. He has to stop forcing things and rely on the rest of the team and the defense to come through for him.

not to be negative but you cant call him a franchise QB and then say he may or may not make it. A franchise QB is one who already has made it and proven to be..well, the Franchise.

I agree with you, jonny. Maybe various things (both Jets and non-Jets related) have beaten me down at this point, but I find it tough to be thankful for the Sanchez the Jets have actually had. I think trading up for him was the right move (whether it ultimately works out or not, it was the right chance to take), and I think any notions of playing Clemens are ridiculous, but there hasn't been all that much in his play since September to be "thankful" for. While he has only been directly and completely responsible for 3 losses, it is simply a fact that if he had been able to be nothing more than a competent game manager this year the Jets would probably be in the playoffs, and he couldn't do it. The enthusiasm for him has to be on his potential upside, because it can't be on the way he's played in total this year. Potential franchise QB? Maybe, but no one really knows. Franchise QB? No way.

I do agree with the rest of the original post, including the stuff about the other person connected to the team who has been savaged by the media - Rex Ryan.

I am thankful for the highly competent, Mike Tannenbaum. And I believe he will do the right things this offseason by: locking up Leon long term; signing another 2 or 3 quality free agent defensive players; drafting CJ Spiller in round 1 and letting TJ walk; and, drafting the best wide receiver available in round 2. This will result in our defense remaining a top 3 unit next season and our offense having the chance to be a top 10 unit with as many weapons on that side of the ball as I can remember them ever having.

The Jets got what it takes to become a SB contender.
    • Punishing Defense
    • Great Running Game
    • Franchise QB
    • Smart picks (gholston excluded)

All we need is to be consistent and Schottenheimer to be a competent OC.
