The issue for me is not one of replacement but of development. The Kid needs as many snaps as he can get. If you want to play that shuttle QBs in and out game with a veteran, fine but I don't know how that helps a rookie.
I agree, we should run more with Brad Smith. He is very dangerous when he is in the open field and is a threat for a big play. It seems the only play we have with him is the option. I would like to see another wrinkle added to that, but nothing too cute.
Section 336 is a dumbshit. Yeah, the wildcat is gay, but our offense is fuckin embarrassing. We look like fuckin assholes out there because of Sanchez. Fuck you
Dude - What is with the personal attacks - it is an internet message board. Is our O embarassing at times yes, but it is far from the only reason we are on the outside looking in on the playoff race (see ST's last week and Mia) and Defense (other Mia and Jax). I have been watching Football for almost 40 years, and until last year -a rookie QB was never successful and 99% of the time future franchise QB's sat with a clipboard for three years. Sanchez needs time to develop and BS has to go, this team will be fine in the future, we were not going to the SB this year not matter what. Back to the original topic in which you told me to FU and called me a dumbshit. Brad Smith is not an NFL caliber WR, his route running sucks, he gets no separation and has subpar hands - does he occasionally make a play, sure but so did Johnny Lam Jones and JoJo Townsell. On Special Teams is where the best argument to keep Brad Smith lies, personally I think he is overrated, He definitely sucks as a return man, but is ok on coverage teams - not great but he he doesn't suck. This offense does not need more wildcat, it needs more screen passes, more play action on first down, shorter routes (slants and outs) and some more creative running plays (toss sweeps, traps etc.) The biggest problem about this offense is that when they line up, I can tell you you with about 95% accuracy what the play is before they run it. If I can do this after not playing football since college over 20 years ago, you know damn well the professionals know what is coming.
I disagree with this, to an extent. We run poorly executed screen passes all the time, personally I HATE screen passes in the NFL. If you're blocking isn't perfect, you aren't gaining an inch. If you're blocking is pretty good, you're only gaining a couple yards; at least thats how it comes off. The wildcat is a gimmick that can work with Brad Smith, our problem is the same exact issue the the Dolphins FIXED against us. When Brad Smith lines up, you know EXACTLY whats happening. Why we don't have him throwing the ball out of the Wildcat is beyond me. He's not an NFL QB, but he can throw a solid ball. If we changed it up just a little bit, everything we run on offense would become more effective. Maybe that's just wishful thinking, though.
Lol at the guy who said Brad Smith sucks as a return man. Have you watched the games since he started returning kicks? He took one past mid-field last game and has been giving the Jets extremely good field position nearly every time.
Good Field postion, every single time? Out of every player that has returned more than 1 KO this year for the Jets this season, BS has the lowest avg, and every player who has returned more than 1 each have one of about 40 yards, a testament more to the blocking. Career he is less than 20 yards per KO return and take out the one long one this year and the rest average under 20. He sucks because of his decision making, as much as his ability. I just do not get the blind love this guy who averages 1 carry and 1 reception a game for his career.
Hey, we have come a long way from this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZxNeFLuY98 Can some tell me how to post the actual you tube video as opposed to the link. Thanks.
It's not really his return ability that makes him a very good special teams player. It's his coverage and KR blocking where he excels.
im sick and tired of hearin about this wildcat. it sounds like a pet name that flombay from american idol uses for his boyfriend.
When the 3-4 defense was first introduced into the NFL, a lot of NFC coaches thought it was a lame little college gimmick that had no place in the "professional" game. Whenever I hear people scoff at the Wildcat, I think of all the curmudgeons who must have scoffed at the 3-4 and the 46 and the WCO and the friggin' forward pass. But that's what I like about football: somebody's always going to buck the trend and implement a new way to win games. First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win. (Gandhi loved him some Wildcat). But I think Calvin Pace said it best when he said "the Wildcat is an inferior offense. Now excuse me, I need to go get bitch-slapped by the Wildcat."
