the fact that ryan isn't the d.coord. is just semantics... he runs the defense. get your head out of your ass.
the only coach that has legitimate blame coming his way is schottenheimer. Ryan has done a fantastic job in his first year, with a rookie QB. If we can grab an offense coord. like Gary Kubiak (hoping he gets fired), Sanchez should be able to progress and with the great job Ryan has done with the defense we can be a successful team.
Fantastic job? How soon you forget all the 4th quarter meltdowns by his bread and butter defense. Ryan has been well below avergage given the talent he has. You can throw out all the numbers you want but it comes down to Ws and Ls and his defense cannot close a game if their life depended on it against some very average offenses.....
didn't take long for me to realize this thread is fucking retarded. only took reading the thread title.
What no one is saying about Ryan is that he is becoming an Excellent head coach... Why? He's actually learning as he goes. He's made timeout mistakes, Management mistakes, sustitution mistakes earier in the season but you know what? I rarely see them in the past 5-6 games...that's the sign of a guy learning. Not like The Herm's and Mangina's who just couldn't grasp it and kept making the same mistakes every time and every damn year!
Good post... people soon forget that this team is pretty much exactly where we thought they would be going into the season. Starting out 3-0 just shot expectations through the roof. Rex is the man i havent been as excited about a COACH for a long time. With a year of experience for both him and Sanchez next year could be VERY interesting.:jets:
i'm not sure how much talent you think we have because this is the best our defense has done with this group of players. closing out games , as the one on sunday, has to do with execution, not coaching.
Did Ryan not try to be "cute" and call a zone defense when the team schooled Atlanta playing man almost the whole afternoon at the most crucial time of the time? That is coaching...
He had 3-12-1 talent. Ryan has 8-8 talent and that's probably where we'll wind up. I'm happy with him so far but I expect improvement next year. The offense has to look much more coherent than what we've seen this year.
I don't blame the call there. Running a zone when there's so little space to cover makes sense. The players just didn't execute. Some of that is on Ryan for either calling a play his players weren't good at, but more of it is on the players for not executing. People overrate playcalls on both offense and defense. Of course it matters, but execution is more important. If the kicking unit didn't screw up against Atlanta, we're not talking about this. If Revis makes the pick, we're not talking about this. If the offensive line could gash a bigger hole in the defense, we're not talking about this.
