Mark Sanchez: 53.5% completion, 12 TD, 20 INT, and 10 fumbles Eli Manning, as a rook (9 games): 48% completion, 6 TD, 9 INT, 1 fumble Eli Manning, first year as starter: 54% completion, 24 TD, 17 INT, 2 fumbles Eli Manning, 3rd year: 54% completion, 24 TD, 18 INT, 2 fumbles And let's not forget that Manning had one of the worst teams around him, while Sanchez has a top-5 offensive line, top-5 run game, and top-10 receiving corps, as well as a top-5 defense that consistently gives him a short field. Add those together and it's clear: Sanchez has been worse by a mile.
+1 i looked those stats up, just to lazy to cut and paste them. Sanchez has talent around him and has shown little from it... no way to get around it. I'm not saying he might not one day be good. But he flat out sucked this year. Has progressed very little.
What did Sanchez do bad today? He controlled the game and got them in scoring position 3 times that our kicking crew blew. Thats 9 points!!! Sanchez gave us a chance to win and our special teams blew it (Not to mention getting no help from the running game). Those two picks did not kill us at all. If he is still making mistakes next year then you could start talking about bust. The lack of paitience is ridiculous.
Did I say Sanchez > Manning? Look, all I'm saying is QBs tend to develop at their own pace. In some cases, the developmental process makes no fuckin sense..look at Eli, he sucked all the way up until the 2007 playoffs. Shit, a couple weeks before he started that playoff campaign he had an awful 4 interception game. In fact, in 4 of his last 6 games that season he had a QB rating below 63...this was in his 4th season, 3rd as a starter.
If 24 TDs and 17 INTs is sucking, what do you call 12 and 20? I'd call it beyond overmatched. If we had Chad Pennington (and he was healthy) this team might have 10 wins right now. At the very least, we beat Buffalo. What game has Mark Sanchez won? I can't bash the move in retrospect, because it was probably the right one when it was made. But I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel right now.
What really needs to be looked at is the 3 and 0 games ,people saying he is exposed so hes been exposed for the last 11 games ,the guy looks shot to me he looked shot after 6 games ,his confidence totally gone ...Only to be expected from a rookie ....
Eli also had the advantage of sitting behind a HOF veteran for a few games. Once the Giants were dead, he played. He got to learn from Kurt Warner. Again, I'm not trying to say that Sanchez' progression will be similar to Eli's. I'm just saying that Sanchez struggles shouldn't be viewed as a reason to freak out and think that he's gonna be a bust. At least not right away.
I agree, to an extent. I think Mark's a hard worker, and I think he'll do everything he can to get better. I think he's got as strong an arm and as accurate an arm as anyone needs to be successful at this level. He's a great athlete and can do things that few other QBs can in the rollout, throwing-on-the-run game. However, I can't say I'm positive that he'll advance past this interception throwing funk, because it seems like he's just doing a flat out awful job making reads. It's not like we're a big downfield passing offense, either, but rather that he's struggling in the few opportunities he has to throw deep passes. He's not a gunslinger, he's just a bad QB right now. I can't think of any other QB with interceptionitis, even as a rookie like this, who broke the funk.
Get a better offensive coordinator with a better system and see what happens. I think for sure Schotty is history after this year. Shit, when Rex was hired he should have jettisoned his ass immediately.
The one INT lead directly to 3 points, the last INT killed a possible game tying drive, and the other INT also hurt another possible chance at scoring. Just because they all didnt lead directly to points doesnt mean they didnt hurt the Jets at all. All 3 INTs were all on Sanchez too. None of them were tipped or caused by the defense. Just poor reads and bad throws. Can anyone seriously name one category Sanchez has actually improved on since day 1? Im trying but i honestly cant think of where ive seen any improvement....
Who would we have replace him? Is Callahan the answer? Frankly, I think we need to bring in someone who's had experience as a QB coach, or even an OC from the college ranks, who has experience developing a young QB.
The problem with Sanchez is that he is not making rookie mistakes, he is making fundamental mistakes. His first interception boggled my mind. He had a corner on the receiver and a safety over the top, it was no special, disguised coverage. He proceeded to pump fake to the SAME RECEIVER HE WAS THROWING TO DOWN THE FIELD. As I'm sure most of you know, a pump fake's purpose is to draw the safety or coverage playing zone off a receiver. He brought the safety to the ball and allowed him to get a jump. It's a dumb, fundamental mistake. His second interception was close to being the same, but I couldn't tell if he double clutched it or if he was pump faking. Either way, the result was a defender getting an extra second to react to where the ball was being thrown to. It would be different if this was early in the season, but ladies and gentlemen, he has been our starting quarterback for 13 regular season games. This is embarrassing. He is not learning from anything he does and continuing to throw him out there is not teaching him anything. Kellen Clemens is by no means the answer ever, but give Sanchez a short leash next week and if the worst happens, put in Ainge or whoever else that's not named Kellen Clemens.
I'm sorry, "Manning had one of the worst teams around him?" Tiki Barber, Amani Toomer, Shockey when he was good, Plaxico Burress, Brandon Jacobs, O'Hara, Diehl, MacKenzie... I could throw out a couple "worsters" for you, BlowMeKerryRhodes.
You get the sense that Rex wanted to have some continuity and also given his experience and his dad's experience in the business he must have thought about how easy it would be to can schotty if yr 1 was a disaster. Shoddy is not really a rex guy so he'll can Shoddy and everybody will say good move - now bring in your guy rex and go win 10-11 games.
They were so great that they were 6-10? Compare the 2009 Jets and the 2004 Giants and even someone as retarded as you, Crotchfaggot, can figure out that Sanchez just might have a superior surrounding cast. But you'd rather suck off Marky Mark, wouldn't you.
What has happened this year is what I feared the day we drafted him...that we start him right away as a rookie when he had very little experience even in college - Eli Manning (played sparingly as a freshman and then was a 3-year starter in the SEC - didn't start until mid-way through rookie season w/ Kurt Warner around) - Carson Palmer (played half of his freshman season and was a 3-year starter at USC -- essentially sat his entire rookie year w/ John Kitna around) - Steve McNair (was a 3 year starter at Alcorn State (don't laugh) - sat a huge portion of his rookie year and even part of his second w/ Chris Chandler around)
Brees, Rodgers, Rivers, Brady all sat as rookies (Rodgers for 3 years - Favre mentor, Rivers for 2 years - Brees mentor, Brady for 1 year - Bledsoe mentor) and all were 3 year starters at the college level We draft a kid with 16 starts under his belt and thrust him in on day 1 with Kellen freakin' Clemens as his mentor. I blame the front office for not bringing in a capable veteren to play most (if not all) of this year and to teach Sanchez the ropes and give him the keys to the car in 2010. What have we accomplished by letting him play too soon? We may have shattered his confidence when he was never ready to begin with. I hope it all works out but I don't blame him...period.
The stats are all comparable. Sanchez hasn't lost many fumbles, better to include the lost fumbles than the total. Problem looking at Eli's stats is that he went 3 years without improving. Mark is still a rookie in his first season learning the job. If he's as bad next year, by all means rail on him, but not now.
Giants were 1-6 with Manning, 5-4 with Warner and of course they went to the playoffs the next year, and our offense not just Sanchez is a long way from being ready for the playoffs and beyond. This game our run game was completely shut down forcing us to expose Sanchez to INTs even when we were winning and it didn't help that we botched 3 point blank FGs. As much as I want to hate on Sanchez he really only completely lost by himself the Buffalo and the Saints games and I even question the coaching staff for allowing him to throw that much when we were running for 300+ yards with the lead most of the game, our "awesome" defense lost us the Miami game and buried us early for the Jacksonville game, and even our special teams lost us a couple of games. Far too much hate for a rookie with the amount of inconsistency the team as a whole has
