How long will it take for these guys to make an impact? What would be a reasonable ammount of time before Jets fans should see some improvement?

Ferguson and Mangold should start in Week 1 and the Jets QBs should be protected better than they were in last season's opener.

You mean from day ONE? Look, these kids are young and strong, and fast, but these are NFL-caliber Defensive Linemen against them. They are gonna get thrown around for a LITTLE while at least!

1st round picked linemen do tend to start from day 1 more so than other positions.

they need to start, if not from day 1, by day 2. this year will be a introduction to the NFL so they can begin their elite gelling for the coming seasons. It's a great time to be a Jets fan!

That should be a given no matter who we had because if our line stays healthy it's automatically better then last year. More importantly, like you said, these two should help make this line one of the better ones for years to come.

The are rookies, there will be growing pains. But I expect steady improvement considering the caliber of the players. HOWEVER, there are many changes on the line, RT and depth (with Clement and Teague) included. For a line to play well, the players have to anticipate each other and be a unit. This takes time. With the amount of turnaround on the line, it is going to take a year to a year-and-a-half before it gels the way it needs to IMO.

I cant wait to see these guys practice and I cant wait to see how Mangini coaches at training camp. I know its asking alot of this new O-Line to perform at a high level this year as they will have to learn from the Vets and they make their skill moves on them but they will learn fast. Im so happy we made these picks and Im proud to be a jets fan.

to those who say they should play from day 1....NO. Let the best player play. Given that these 2 are studs for there positions and the scheme is new for everyone on the team they have as good a chance to get the starting job assuming the adapt to the speed of the nfl. I realize they need to be thrown into the fire sooner then later but in the best interests of winning football games we need to get the best guys out there.

For what its worth, I think they will both win starting spots and once the win them....they'll keep them :)

I didn't write they should start because they were picked in the first round. I wrote they should start, meaning they should be able to beat out the moderately talented guys.

I think in the first 6 games or so, it will be a bit ugly.

We could have anywhere from 2-3 new starters on the line; (Ferguson at LT, Mangold/Teague at C, or Moore/Mangold at RG).

It's going to take a bit for them to jell, but I anticipate by the second half of the season we're going to start to see a real good offensive line, that lays the foundation for future success on offense.

If Chad isn't healthy at QB, then a young O-line could benifit more from Ramsey at QB--he could buy them a little bit of cover for their blown plays by using his feet a bit.

They're not going to be great right out of the gates, but they will be pretty good. Here is why:

D'Brick and Mangold are rookies, but who is between them? That's right, veteran Kendall, who does have some C knowledge, but moreso can help D'Brick with adjustments he needs to make. He'll be very good in bringing along Brick. Now, who will be on the right side? I personally think it will be Mangold-Teague-Jones. Again, veteran between the two less experienced players. Teague's Center knowledge can't be put into question, and as a Guard, his blocking won't be exposed as much. Jones is basically a 2nd year starter now. He's learning a new position you could say, but he's a bit further along than just a plain rookie. Teague also has Tackle knowledge, so he can help Jones. The glue that holds the line together will be Teague and Kendall, and that is a huge reason why those two are in the team. Atleast, I think it is. For the next two years, the transition will be for Brick-Mangold-Jones to become elite veterans at their position. After that point, the guards will be swapped out for younger players, and Kendall and Teague will be backups if they're still around.

Don't look for us to be truly elite this year, but look for a pretty good line by Week 8, and very good by the end of the season. Look for next season to be where this line truly comes along. Then Kendall and Teague might be worked out for younger, hopefully better players, and the next 10 years essentially the same line. Guards can by integrated much quicker. If you are set at the Ts and C, you will pretty much always have atleast a very good line, with greatness if those Guards become great run blockers. The NFL is a pass-first league though, so we should be very good no matter what.

    LMAO!

Ferguson is in for a tough year. He's not going to be a pro-bowler out of the chute. Mangold is also being over rated by Jets fans. Teague will start at center this year. Anyone rememeber how bad Kendall was at calling the blocking assignments last year as a center? And he was a vet, with SOME experience at center. Mangold,if he isn't given the chance to compete at RG with Moore will ride the bench this year. And the people that whined about Jones vs. Jason Taylor? They will be screaming that we wasted that 4th pick.

These two are rookies, and they wil play like rookies. Thsi is a rebuild year, and these kids are NOT going to fix the O line in one year. Next year, yeah, they will be ready, but not this year. This is not college folks, it's the NFL.

I think we will not do too well in games 3-10 but then we will improve and people will be looking forward to the year after by the end of the season.

Well mangold and fergy, would obviously need reps against nfl level rushers, so i would say maybe week 5 they would be playing as they should be...

They need to start and gain NFL experience. The only way they will learn is by getting thrown into the fire right away.

Let the rookie lineman have their growing pains on the field. Our line can't be worse than it was last year, and there's no point in having these guys rot on the bench of a bad team.

    like DaBrowski said

growing pains are a given, brick will struggle with run blocking and mangold will struggle to block some LB's effectively.

but you know what they NEED to start day one, when your a lineman the only thing that helps you is actually playing. and when you spend two 1st rd picks on OL they need to be out their taking their licks and gelling in a pro system against real talent.

plain and simple. id rather watch them suffer here and there knowing next yr will be twice as easy for them.
