That's a fair assessment. Then dealing with Cutler rumored to come here, trading up for Sanchez and we ALL knew Clemens was sitting on the pine.

The guy obviously just wants a fresh start, but the way he played tonight was just terrible, I doubt this guy is a backup for anyone next season...Relegate to 3rd string clipboard holder.

If they are going to have Clemens run bootlegs out of the jumbo package, you might as well pull Clemens and let Smith run it.

I thought Wildcat and quickly remembered how bad it looked against NE when Schotty trotted it out there.

All said, there is still work to be done because it didn't go smoothly.

My personal Jets QB depth chart:

    Mark Sanchez
    Eric Ainge
    Brad Smith
    Jeff Garcia
    Tom Tupa
    Mark Sanchez with torn ACL
    Rex Ryan
    Kellen Clemens

Couldn't agree more. Ainge looked great in TC and in pre season and has a hunger about him. As much as I love Sanchez, I would love Ainge to beat him out in TC next season

Not that I am signing off on Brad Smith, but give me a break. What I saw out of Clemens last night is that he is the best option we have for a QB to throw the ball into the ground and have no feel for the pass rush, as has been Kellen's MO for a few years now. He has zero poise, and he comes into the game nervous when he gets a shot. He totally cracked under the pressure. That's no option.

Unless theres some kind of homoerotic undertone which did pass me by, yes.
We may have an even better QB in Ainge that could help push/challenge Sanchez for the #1 spot

I was thinking the same thing last night, in terms of using Smith.

He's already warmed up and ready to go, so why not.

Kellen just handed off anyway, so it makes complete sense.

Why do we even still have Clemens since we traded for Kevin O'Connell?
