its the type of passing plays on 1st down. Rollouts to the left with a right handed QB, WR option passes, attack mode. Its every single week that something wacky has to be installed or a low percentage play is called. Sanchez was doing well when the play was a slant to Cotchery for 6 yards on 1st, and that's when Schotty is calling a good game. I haven't seen that pass most of the time since the 3-0. During that start, it was timing slant routes perfectly that made Sanchez look awesome for those 1st 3 weeks. Somehow it just disappears.
Wouldn't bother me at all if they fired Rex. Go and get a real head coach, a coach with Super Bowl experience. Been saying it since Parcells left. With the names out there right now (Shanahan, Cowher, Holmgren, Gruden, Dungy) it's hilarious that we are gonna just wait and see if Rex figures it out, and give him a chance, only to find out he's only good enough to be a coordinator. This is professional football, don't need to give people a chance so they feel better... there are much better proven coaches out there PERIOD. And while they're at it sign a real veteran QB to help this kid get his head out of his ass. That was Rex's first huge mistake.
I don't think so. A good comparison would be McDaniels. Should he be fired too? He was an OC and the Broncos have the 21th ranked offense which was ranked a lot higher last year. It's still the same OL that made any RB look good. Orton is an experienced QB and he drafted a RB in the first round. And Brandon Marshall can make any QB look good. Even the Jets who have a dumb OC whose is not handling his rookie QB right are ranked higher at No. 20. Ryan was a DC and the jets have the fifth ranked defense and the Broncos are at no. 6. Obviously Ryan has everything to do with the defense and McDaniels has nothing to do with his defense. If he did why can he do the same with the offense which is his specialty. I know injuries are not to be taken into account but if the Broncos has lost their best player Dumervill would they still be ranked at No 6. The Jets lost Jenkins and are still at No. 5. The Jets were never blown out of game and could have won every game they lost other than the second NE game. The defense played really well in the second half. You can't win when your rookie QB throws four INTs against a good team. The Broncos got blown out three times. They got at least two fluke wins which had they lost they would have the same record as the Jets. They just got over a four game losing streak. Based on how each coach had done in their specialty, Ryan on defense, McDaniels on offense, I take Ryan over McDaniels. Winning fluke games doesn't make you a good coach. Just like losing close games because of INTs from your rookie QB or special teams lapses doesn't make you a bad coach. This is just their first year. Still too early to tell. I can only fault Ryan for letting his OC let Sanchez run his offense like he knew it from top to bottom. Even Favre was smart enough not to attempt that. But being smart is not one of Schotty's qualities. Thinking that he is smart is. He is probably too smart for his own good.
I can't believe you even entertained this possibility. I wish you posted this thread tomorrow so it could have been merged into the forum cesspool.
if rex is fired in less than 3 years i will be pissed. when you hire a guy to coach who has never been a head coach before growing pains are part of the deal. rex and sanchez get a pass on this year with the expectation that next year and the years following will bring great improvements.
i find it hysterical that some people want a HC who's won a Super Bowl. No SB winning head coach has ever won a SB with two different teams. And with the shit mentality of this fan base, you really think the Jets are the place for that to happen. I can't believe this mentality. Anyone who says "that's why you don't hire coordinators"... guess what those SB winning HCs were before they got there? Coordinators. You dopes.
Lets come to grips with the fact that our owner never has or will have any intentions of hiring a big name coach. He's content with trying to find a diamond in the rough. Unfortunately that more often than not leads to disappointment.
i'll only say that he's finally decided this time to go after a highly respected coordinator in Ryan. The Herm position coach and the Mangini kid wonder were bad choices, but Rex is the first big name that the CS has seen since Parcells. I hope this trend continues if Rex doesn't work out, because one of the highly respected Coordinators is going to be the one guy that gets it right. What I don't like, and that some of the beat writers have noticed as well, is the Jets tendency to hire the polar opposite personality when one coach doesn't work out. Groh the disciplinarian, Herm the fun lover, Mangini the nazi, Rex the joker. I'd like a happy medium. A guy who the coaches love who gets up their ass if something goes wrong. With Rex, he isn't running a resort like Herm, but he's still the typical players coach. I find Mike Tomlin to be that happy medium, and Tony Sparano as well.
where did you see this? I read all that crap, lol and havent seen it said anywhere that Rex is on the hot seat???
I would imagine that Cowher would either like to wear two hats or would like to have overall say over personnel. I like Rex, but I would imagine Cowher and whoever he would bring in would be an overall improvement over whoever we would have next year.
I agree TBJ, having Sanchez occasionally throw on first down (especially on a play action fake) is a great idea. I think the problems have come when the Jets have tried to run unsuccessfully on first and ten (like in the beginning of the Pats game) and eventually left Sanchez in second and long.
Scikats & Chris5533 - Like a dope, I didn't post the links. Now, I can't find the damn articles. Sounds like a "dog ate my homework" excuse, I know. I hate when people on this board can't back something up. Now, I'm one of those people. Damn! Sorry Boys! I'm open to critism. Bad job on my part.
If the Jets make a change it needs to be top down at this point and start with the GM. Personally I think they should give Tannenbaum and Ryan another season to straighten things out, but that's mainly because I think fixing what is wrong right now from the GM's seat is going to be a tough job and I'd like the guy who got us into this to get a shot at getting us out. I also think firing Ryan before he's had two seasons would say something very bad about the Jet's organization at this point - unless he went as part of an all heads roll move.
Hey dude you're from canada not ny so you don't count when it comes to being impatient w/ shit so whatever bro. Dude we need a new coach. Rex is 4-6 bro. That's a losing record. You want a winning team right?
Alright I was kinda disrespectful to Canada in that post. I've never been to Canada so no offense meant just I want a new coach.
My guess is Cowher has way too much class to take that call even if Woody made it. No way he would discuss a job with a coach already in place. I hate the Steelers and don't like Cowher (tho he's a really good coach), but he's way too stand-up of a guy for that IMO. Now I'll probably be proved wrong...
you take that "you're not from NY mentality"....and shove it up your piehole. Being a fan of the Jets isn't reserved for native new yorkers only.
Ace, I can't top you on that but being from NY gives you the "edge" still. If you can make it here you can make it anywhere.................................................. NY
