That's totally inaccurate. The Pats were in the Superbowl in 86 and 97 after years of ineptitude. Much like the Jets have been since Joe Willie. Back when tv's were black and white and gas was a nickel a gallon.
Yeah, we know the Pats were in the Super Bowl those years. The point was that you did not have a large fanbase until recently. Until Parcells came to town, Pats games used to be blacked out all the time and the crowds at Schaefer/Sullivan/Foxboro Stadium were pathetic. Unlike the Red Sox, who have die-hard fans that suffered for decades, many, many Pats fans are frontrunners who barely knew the team existed until about '93-'94.

thank you for explaining it to them. i prefer to toy with them and ask them who guys like john hannah were, or andre tippett..... they rarely are able to answer, which means their opinion doesnt matter. if the patsies were smart they would do 20 flashbacks every game so that i would have a harder time telling who the 8 people were in foxboro in 89. my mom used to root for the patriots when they werent playing the jets because she felt bad that they didnt have any fans.
