Without taking sides in the eternal war of Darksiders against Sunshiners, I feel like a lot of look-at-the-bright-side people are ignoring a valid reason as to why people keep saying Same Ol' Jets...

The thing that sucks the most about this season isn't that we're not "going to the Superbowl" this year... Except for some extremely punch-drunk sunshiners, I'm sure most people expected a pretty "regular" season with this team, even if we all occasionally were overly optimistic in our posts.

But I would contend that while most people thought we'd realistically lose 7~8 games, I'm sure they were thinking (I know I was) those loses would be to the upper echelon teams on our schedule (Pats, Colts, Saints, etc...) NOT to the trash (Bills, Jags, Dolphins), and yes, I call those teams trash even though we lost to them because no one can realistically compare those teams to the ones in the first group. The point is, I think everyone here would be more accepting of a mediocre record this year if we were losing close games to the top teams, not crapping the bed to the bottom feeders...

THAT'S why its not fair to disregard SOJ posters with a simple "well it's a Rookie QB/HC, what did you expect??". The talent on this team already should have been enough to lift us through the crap games, and then if we lost nail-biters to the great teams, it's more believable to call those "growing pains"

I guess my point is, some SOJ posters have a point, it doesn't mean they hate their team and are looking to jump ship (for the most part). It's just frustrating that we can't handle bad teams... and I know I might get crucified for what I'm about to say, but I would trade that Pats win into a close loss for turning that Bills loss into a blowout win for us. I'd feel much more optimistic if we played the Pats close but lost with a rookie QB/Coach tandem, and then followed that up with a spanking of the Bills. The way it DID go down though just isn't giving me warm fuzzies for the future.

But still, go Jets (till the day I die, which probably will come sooner rather than later due to the high blood pressure induced while watching Jets games)

Why do so many fans not realize that on any given Sunday, anyone can win? The Jets are sitting on the fence in the middle of the pack and can fall either way on Sunday. The Dolphins are in the same pack. Both teams are young and need a season or two together developing.

What is puzzling to me is that the Jets do have a solid defense but can't stop a drive when they absolutely have to.

Good opening post. I agree that it's a little disheartening that we lose to the teams we are capable of beating. Any given Sunday is a reallity, no doubt about it, but sometimes you should just pound a team every time you play them. I too, would probably rather take an L to the Pats in exchange for a victory over the Bills. However, we can't do that. We need to prepare for every team like we have to work to beat them. You have to know that the mood at Rex's practice for the first New England game were probably more intense than the Buffalo game. This is where we need improvement from The CS. i don't think we are gameplanning well enough to the strengths of our team vs. the weaknesses of our opponent. It seems as though we come up with a gameplan and stick to it now. That appeared different during the first 3 weeks, we were making good adjustments then, and now, we are just sticking to the plan.

Because that's just a cop out after a while. If that was the case, then every year every team would be 8-8. I'll give you that on any given Sunday, each team has a CHANCE to win, but better teams simply have a much BETTER chance of winning. All I'm saying is that some people are upset at our team because we thought our team was one of those with a better "chance" of winning each Sunday, and it's just not happening...and our D chocking in the clutch just feeds the frustration

What sucks the most is this stat - "The Jets' last four defeats have been by a combined 14 points."

    "by a combined 14 points"

    "14 points"

Is this about the team, or who we're losing to? I'm lost.

maybe, maybe not. Then again, we probably could condense this entire board into 10~15 super-threads if you really wanted to... if the mods want to combine this thread into another one, that's fine with me, I wasn't trying to be a post-whore or whatever. In fact I've probably only started a couple of threads since I've joined. Just thought this would spur a more civilized discussion :)

Sadly, I totally agree with Ted.
