There were 12 men on the field. Even if the Jets get into the endzone on that play, it gets called back and the team is further away from the goal line. So, just so I'm clear on this, you think that Schottenheimer made a terrible call by using a T.O. instead of taking a penalty and pushing his own team back?

It's always a good idea to read further posts in a thread when more information comes in.

Are you claiming that having 12 men on the field on offense is not the offense coordinator's responsibility?

No, 12 men on the field is Schottenheimer's fault. However, you were arguing that calling the timeout was a bad call. So, according to your argument there, you disagree with Schottenheimer calling the timeout when the alternative would have compounded his mistake.

Chris Johnson called the commentator a bitch in his interview. Was it Shannon Sharpe? Because if it was, that would be hilarious considering how much Sharpe has been felating Johnson in recent weeks.

And why do you have to call a timeout on 3rd and goal from the half-yard line if you just go freaking strong from the start which is a no-brainer? That timeout was called because the Jets were in a spread formation with one back in the backfield and 3rd and half yard for a TD. What the hell was going on in whoever called that plays mind?

Worst case scenario is we finish 4-12 and get a high draft pick.

However I doubt that's gonna happen. Sanchez played well enough to win the game. After the TD it was ALL on the D to make the stop and they didn't.

This is a rookie QB and a rookie HC, before the season started I (we) prolly would have expected 8-8, 9-7 at best, but the 3-0 start got us all juiced up. Now we come back down to earth and deal with it.

I am the usual darksider, but suddenly I believe that this team can be something special in years to come...heck, Sanchez has already proven he ain as bad as JaBustus Russel and Ryan "jailbird" Leaf...for what its worth.

Yes, it was a poor pass. It was also an extremely difficult pass to make, and there was no reason to start off the game asking your QB to throw a pass like that. That is my biggest complaint about Schottenheimer - he seems incapable of calling a game that plays to his players' strengths. He is just completely convinced that he is the smartest guy in the stadium, and he loves to show it off, even if the plays have a poor risk/reward tradeoff.

As I've said above several times, the fact that there were 12 men on the field makes the timeout at the goal line a very different thing. I also don't think that the Jets lost the game because of Schottenheimer. I just think that he got so much positive press for his creativity in 2006 that he's always trying to get that back, rather than call a game that won't draw attention to himself, but might have a better chance of winning.

A rookie QB brought the team back and gave a defensive team a great chance to win the game. You can't ask for much more than that.

The only thing wrong with Schotty and the offense is that they don't get going until the Jets are losing. Scotty calls a great game when we are behind, but gets all cute when we are leading 3-0

The QB is, and the HC is a rookie. That's the top decision makers on and off of the field who are learning on the job. Experience-wise, it's a young team.

This team is middle-aged and aging rapidly before our eyes. Drop dead date for this window is probably the 2011 season, but it might well be 2010.

Thankfully next year will be uncapped so the Jets can chop off the dead wood before it falls off of it's own accord.

^The D-Line is definitely going to need it after this season.
