Vick says playing for the Eagles next year would be "an everyday struggle." Dungy has served as an adviser to Vick since the Super Bowl-winning coach retired from the Colts after last season. Now a commentator for NBC, Dungy confirmed during the pregame show Sunday night before Philadelphia hosted Dallas that the Bills and Vick "talked originally" when Vick was searching for a team after serving 18 months in federal prison for running a dogfighting ring. The Eagles signed Vick to a $1.6 million contract for 2009, with a team option for the second year at $5.2 million. But he has played sparingly. "I told Michael to just worry about this year," Dungy said. "It's technically up to Philadelphia. If they want him back, he has to stay there. If they don't, there are some teams looking for quarterbacks: Cleveland, St. Louis and Washington. "But I think a dark horse is Buffalo. They talked originally. There was some communication there. I think that could be a good spot." Vick has not been the weapon for the Eagles some expected, and he was in for only two plays in their 20-16 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night. Vick said his focus is on helping the Eagles win a Super Bowl and not where he'll play next year. "It's what I thought it would be," Vick said. "I knew I couldn't come in and do anything that would disrupt the rhythm of the offense and what we had going on here. I knew I was going to have to be patient." Those comments came in contrast to ones he made to Bob Costas, who interviewed Vick earlier in the week for NBC's Football Night in America pre-game show. "It would be hard," Vick told Costas of returning to the Eagles. "It would be an everyday struggle. But I would have to take that time to hone my skills and get better. I'm excited about the opportunity I have moving forward whether it's with Philadelphia or another team." Asked about the role he envisions himself in, Vick told NBC that he "won't be a Wildcat guy. I can't. It's a different style of play. It's almost like a hit-or-miss type of thing. My position is quarterback. That's what I was born to do." Bills starter Trent Edwards struggled this season before sustaining a concussion. Ryan Fitzpatrick, a career backup, has been the starter with Edwards out of the lineup. Vick didn't want to talk with the Associated Press about potential teams for the 2010 season. "Me and Tony talked about my position in the future, whether I'm here or whether I'm there," Vick said. "We talked about it, but the primary goal is to help this team win the Super Bowl." Vick has completed 2 of 6 passes for 6 yards and rushed 12 times for 27 yards, mostly out of the Wildcat formation. He said he usually talks to Dungy at least once a week and receives "great advice" from his mentor. Vick, who has talked to churches and schools about the poor life choices he's made, has enjoyed his second chance in Philadelphia. "It's been great," he said. "Every day I wake up and I just thank God I have another opportunity to play football and put on a uniform. That's what I'm thankful for."
He'd certainly be a much better backup than Ryan Fitzpatrick. I doubt he would start over Edwards, though.
What has Vick shown to anyone that suggests he's ready to contribute to an NFL offense? Give this guy a one way ticket to the UFL.
If he was good enough to be helping the team then he would be getting playing time. He's no longer the best athlete on the field, so he's no longer effective. Plain and simple.
It's not like he's a running back that can just get plugged in on third downs. He wasn't ready to go when McNabb was hurt, and nowadays McNabb is healthy and is too important to the team to take him out for any stretch of time. Vick needed a year to get back into things with a stable franchise, but next year he'll head to a team that can really use him.
If Vick was still half the athlete he was in Atlanta, then Reid and Mornhinweg would be getting him touches. As the Dolphins have proven, there's more than one way to get the ball into your playmaker's hands. Vick's value is ultimately sort of irrelevant to the point that I was trying to make though. Most teams had serious questions about whether or not Vick could play QB coming out of prison and about whether or not he could handle the spotlight. Neither of those questions have been answered; the only thing we've really learned is that he's not as fast or elusive as he used to be. Who would want him at this point?
I actually did this in Madden for year 2 (I manage all the teams to keep things balanced). He did not do well...he did not do well at all.
My first reaction to this is to wonder if this isn't some sort of tampering by Dungy. I know it's not the same as a team tampering with a potential FA/draft pick, but telling teams before the season ends where his player wants to go is essentially screwing with the free agent market or trying to force the Eagles' hand.
Seals what? I didn't make a prediction, I didn't say it's going to happen because of that, I'm just talking...the word "Madden" should not automatically discredit someone from typing out their thoughts or experiences. When people are rating people based on their Madden ratings, and saying "we" should get them, that's a different story. I'm just commenting how I actually did this in Madden, similar to adding Edge to the Hawks before it actually happened, or benching LJ midseason...it's just neat that sometimes these coincidences occur. I suppose you'd rather every post be a skeptic, sunshiner, pessimist, or troll though.
It's a forum, and this is about the NFL "in general." That means anything the NFL endorses, too. Considering the game is the only NFL simulation which tries (although many would argue fails) to represent how things happen in the real league, there's no reason for you to make a point that you don't care. If you don't care, that's fine, I'm not posting to get comments, I'm just adding my thoughts. My thoughts pertained to me doing the speculative transaction this thread is about. I released him in Madden because I was aware of the team option for a 2nd year, as well as the idea that he really wasn't be utilized in Philly. The Bills needed a backup QB, or even a potential starter, so I put him there. It made sense there just like it might make sense in real life. But honestly, would you rather I make a separate topic in the video game forum just to make a tiny little reference that I know no one cares about? I don't think so, so please keep the even more useless comments out of this.
Yes because what you do in Madden has relevance to this topic. I used the Jets once in Madden, should I post a thread about it?
That analogy is not the same thing, and now you're grasping for straws by comparing what I said in a minor comment to a thread to me creating an actual thread. Most forums don't penalize people that are merely responding to a topic creator, so long as they are not breaking the other rules. This isn't breaking rules, so you're just harassing me as if this is the bullshit forum for no reason.
