As I think about the Jets this week, I can't say I am overly worried about our chances, but with an unpredictable situation at QB you just never know if this could be a letdown. Now, the Jags have one of the worst defenses in the NFL. They have the least sacks in the league and are close to dead last in the league...it's no surprise that the latter is a result of the former. They are 23rd in total defense, 22nd against the run and 26th against the pass. I feel like this is an opportunity to run the ball 40 times...with a Jones-25, Greene-10, Woodhead-5 type of breakdown....though in reality, you can probably scratch the Woodhead carries. It's also a great chance for Sanchez to build more confidence, this time in a win, and get ready for some of the tough matchups ahead. Keller needs to get the ball and score this week. I want to see our play action game working....we're going to need it. Unless Sanchez comes out Sunday and lays an egg, I think we will look crisp and efficient on offense. It's the defense I am worried about this week. I don't know who Revis will be matched up on, or if he'll have a one-man assignment at all. I think that with the damage Sims-Walker has done, Revis should take him on 1 on 1 and if Holt gives Lito (who I hope will be back) trouble, we use some sort of bracket coverage on him. I'm not sure that an old Lito can shut down an old Holt. The matchups that worry me most are the ones inside. First off, Garrad has been sacked 18 times...that's twice per game, and we need to get more than that. Why? Because of MJD. The guy can catch the ball, run the ball and block. I'd hate to see them do to us what other teams have, and avoid 3rd and long because we can't get to the QB, or because their RB is finding cracks and picking up positive yards every carry. Add to this, the fact that Marcedes Lewis is a big, athletic TE who can catch and block, and we might have a hard time figuring out whether to stick Lowery/Strickland on him, or try to slow him down by jamming him with a LB at the line. It can create matchup problems for sure. There's always the possibility that Garrard will come out and be mediocre as usual, and we'll win 31-10 or something, but I don't think this one's a lock by any stretch. If we contain Sims-Walker and MJD, we're good. Basically, Sims-Walker needs to get Revised (5 catches, 45 yards) and MJD needs to gain under 100 yards rushing and receiving combined with max 1 TD.
Sounds like a perfect game for the Jets to lose. They'll successfully shut down Maurice Jones-Drew, however completely forget to gameplan for the K/WR phenom who will go 5-175-2TDs and kick 2 50+ field goals. Boths sides of the ball will be played soundly, however, Feely will forget how to kick and cost the Jets the game. SOJ.
Coming off a bye at home if we don't win this game the coaching staff is going to come under some very intense pressure for the first time.
5 catches is too many if revis is on him all game. more like 2 or 3. Making Gerrard beat the defense is the way to beat them. MJD can't be allowed to do anything. But these bastards seem to have the Jets' number.
I'm still trying to figure out why it has taken so long to get keller back into the offense. He had a good game two weeks ago.. basically doubling all of his stats and I don't get why it isn't like that every week.. One of the main points brought up during pre-season was that Keller is going to be a main component of the offense and with a rookie QB.. going to see plenty of targets.. but that hasn't been the case..
+1 This is Rex's first bye week judgement day, for some reason I think he'll have these guys extremely prepared. Just like the start of the season hopefully. A nice 3-0 start after the bye would be beautiful.
chemisty and playcalling. Sanchez targeted keller 10 times in the Buffalo game and only completed 2 passes to him. that's a problem as well. I remember saying Keller's numbers were going to dip this year. Favre loves using the TE, Sanchez isn't Favre, so he has to come along a little bit more. I can see keller having a big 2nd half since the timing is getting better between these two.
yea a lot of keller's problems are his own fault or atleast timing between him and sanchez. I see a lot of keller turning around late to catch a ball thats already landing at his feet or it goes off his hands or hes a step to short. Hes used to always be open but they had their problems and i think he stopped trying as hard to get open.
I don't get that either....Keller, if I recall correctly, was like the first receiver putting in extra time with Sanchez to get some chemistry and timing going. It sure doesn't look like it's there, but I also think Keller's effort looks to be lacking some. A bit of sophomore slump maybe ?
I've read for 2 straight weeks that on fim is looks like John Henderson is done. The Jags have a couple good LBs, but I am confident that Mangold and Faneca, who at least still looks good in the run game, will be able to get Jones to the second level. One other thing I want to see which I cannot fathom the absence of considering how much Sanchez gets blitzed is the use of screen passes.
I'd like to see something a little more dynamic in our running game. We just seem to try and bust it up the middle everytime. Maybe it's just my perception?
you want schotty to take what the D gives him and call a good passing game? he doesn't do those things. I miss watching play-action passes too. Wasn't Sanchez's first ever NFL pass in the pre-season a Play-action pass to Clowney? where does it all go? "hey it works, let's never do it again."
Leon Washington would have been gold for that. But still how about a WR screen with Clowney or Jones a couple times a god damn game??
Also, "hey it doesn't work, let's try it until it does work" Great example of this- The 3rd and goal fade in the right corner of the endzone. Schotty has shown that he can be a good offensive coordinator, but some of his decision making leaves many people like us baffled.
The Jags were running a 3-4, but now have switched back to a 4-3 after their bye-week. Their pass D sucks. Rasheen Mathis occasionally makes the big play that makes sportscenter, but he also gets TOASTED by the big play. I expect Edwards to do the later. They have a good corp of WRs for the 1st time in years, but Garrard makes bad decisions when pressured, yet contained in the pocket. Revis should take care of Sims-Walker, but Holt still has some game (without some of the speed he once had) and Mike Thomas is an upcoming young receiver who is pretty good. Basically that team rolls through Mojo. Shutting him down and forcing Garrard into some bad plays / turnovers is the key for the JETS. :jets:
If Sanchez can unscramble is view of the field, I think our offense can go off. Even if Mathis is on Braylon all day, Keller creates matchup problems and Cotchery will burn their other CB. Of course, Schotty has to allow that to happen.
You have a low standard for Revis. If someone is 'Revised', they should not be getting 45 yards on 5 catches. Unless Sims gets a huge gain, he should be kept around 30 yards. Thats how good Revis is. You can try to dink and dunk on Revis and get maybe 5 yards at a time, but you shouldn't be able to get a long gain on a man to man coverage with Revis Christ.
Yes Sir....classic Shotty. This is exactly why he has to go before this team hits its stride. One way or another he's gone after this season I hope.
I feel like Lowery can more than handle a 33 (?) year old Holt in one on one coverage. The game hinges on Harris, Scott and Leonhard stopping MJD.
