The Abraham trade makes sense for both sides. The Falcons biggest need was a pass rushing DE. Abe was head and shoulders above anybody in FA. It was a bad draft class for DE after Mario Williams. DE is a crab shoot in the draft. Look at the amount of busts.

Hali is slow and weak. This could be seen in his 40 time and bench press.

Kiwi got dominated at the senior bowl.

Abe is a proven commodity. Hes a play maker. Look at his sack numbers and forced fumbles last year.

We were also able to fill our seconds biggest need in the second round of the draft by drafting Jimmy Williams at CB, who has first round talent.

Rich Mckay admitted the Broncos got the best of the deal on Wednesday, this can be seen in the trade value chart, but the Falcons were not in a powerful position.

Sorry to burst your bubble on Abe's sack #'s, but they were mostly accumulated in spurts, i.e. 2 or 3 a game, against teams with inferior lines. When it came time for him to shine against a stellar opponent's O-line, he couldn't deliver.

That being said, his game did definitely pick up last year in the way of pressures and more consistent play- in alot of games I found myself saying "he's there again." It would appear that they added weight served to help him in the run defense area, which was always his weakness.

GET OVER IT! Bryan Thomas is a BUST. Say it with me: B-U-S-T. There is not a chance in hell Thomas will become half the pass rusher Abraham was and I don't care what system you placed him in. As far as the rest of this thread goes they need more than one draft to fill all the holes on this team and the d-line is obviously something that will get a closer look in next year's draft.

Settle down skippy. We aren't going to use BT as a down-end in this new scheme, rather as a OLB where rushing the QB may come alot easier.

I'm not sure if you noticed some of the games last year, but in alot of cases he was the one hustling to make the play or chasisng folks down the field, where even members of our secondary couldn't make a play.

I'm willing to give Thomas a pass up until this year. He, along with other players in the system, weren't properly utilized, given their strengths coming onto the team.

If, after this year, he shows little to no improvement, I'll join you on the first round bust bus, but not until that point. I've actually got some pretty good feelings for the way this season might go for him...

Abes also going to be playing on a better defensive line. Rod Coleman is the best pass rushing DT in the NFL and Patrick Kerney a Pro Bowler will be playing on the other end. You can't double team everybody. Pick your poision.

Plus theres a good chance we could add Grady Jackson at the nose.

Some people around here think he's selfish because he wanted to get paid for what he did for us. There a lot of people on here that are just plan idoits.

I'd just like to know who would rather have Mangold right now than Abraham. I hope the answer is noone. I was for the Abe trade, but I assumed they would make a pass rusher their first need. After Mario was taken they needed to find a way to get Lawson.

Plus even if we werent going to trade him-he wasnt playing for our team anyway-he hated it in New York-so basically we got a first round pick for a guy who wouldnt be on the roster anyway

    Johnny-

I would DEFINITELY rather have Mangold now than Abraham! A young Center with toughness and brains who will start for 10+ years verus a nearly 30-year old whiner who is one dimentional - and not even one of the top 3 pass rushing DE's in the NFL.

Don't assume the same old Jets with our New FO and CS...

For me the last straw was when he didn't want to play IN THE PLAYOFFS because he was going into his FA year. That told me everything I needed to know about Abe not only as a player but a person. I for one will not miss him at all and will root for the aints, bucs, and the panthers to whoop his ass twice a year.

Titan, I dont think its so much more about his not going in the playoffs then that he is not taylor made for the new system, I dont see him being strong enough keep linemen off of our LB's and smart enough to play in multiple schemes.

ALSO, he (Abe) has been proven by his comments in the MEDIA to be a ME-1ST player, no one on the team OR the coaching staff had to say anything. Abe was also VERY injury prone and last year was his 1st full season in 2 and only his 2nd in his career.

I agree JA is a phenomenal pass rusher but he is a ONE - DIMENSIONAL player whose best suited for the Falcons 4 - 3 scheme.

    PEACE!!!
