    Premise:
I thought at the beginning of the season this was going to be a 7-9 / 9-7 season and, as things are going lately it's likely. Rookie HC + Rookie QB + Schotty = hard times will come by.
I wasn't doubting the talent level of the player and the coaches, but the fact that in this league it's important to have some experience under the belt.

    Playoff hopes:

Unless Tom Brady discovers Gisele's son is actually Belichicks there is no hope of winning the division and whichever team will finish the AFC North second will almost surely have a better record than us.
The Colts and the Broncos are clearly the better team in their division so basically there is just one playoff spot left and it's a wild card spot.
The teams in contention are: Jets, Dolphins, Texans and Chargers.

    - Houston Texans:
They are 5-3 and 1-1 in the division. They are a good team with a really strong passing attack but a suspect D and running game. Owen Daniels (their star TE) is out for the season and that's a big - for them.

    They face:
    Colts / Titans / Colts / Jaguars / Seahawks / Rams / Dolphins / Patriots

    - San Diego Chargers:
They are 4-3, play in the weakest division of all times but go against the NFC East. Good O but laughable D, especially with their NT out.

    They face:

    Giants / Eagles / Broncos / Chiefs / Browns / Cowboys / Bengals / Titans / Redskins

    - Miami Dolphags
    (so much for being professional):
Strong running O, bad passing O + Strong running D, bad passing D.
They are 3-4 and 3-1 in the division (thanks to us).

    They face:
    Patriots / Buccaneers / Panthers / Bills / Patriots / Jaguars / Titans / Texans / Steelers

    - NY Jets:
We are 4-4 and 1-3 in the div.

    We face:
    Jaguars / Patriots / Panthers / Bills / Buccaneers / Falcons / Colts / Bengals

    Predictions:

    - Jets
: IMO we can consider ourselves happy if we go 9-7, delighted if we make it to 10-6. If we go 8-8 we did our due diligence but we still need time to grow (like I said in my premise) to get to the playoffs.
    W against: Jaguars / Panthers / Bills / Buccaneers (4)
    Maybe: Falcons / Bengals (2)

    - Dolphags
    : I think they'll go 8-8 or 9-7.
    W against: Buccaneers / Panthers / Bills / Jaguars / Titans (5)
    Maybe: Texans (1)

    - Texans
: They are in the best position, I think they'll go 10-6 maybe 11-5 if they find a replacement for Daniels.
    W against: Titans / Jaguars / Seahawks / Rams (4)
Maybe: Dolphins / Patriots (in the final week) (2)

    - Chargers
: It really depends on if the run D will show up but I think they can finish in the 8-8 / 9-7 range
    W against: Chiefs / Browns / Redskins (3)
    Maybe
    : Broncos / Bengals / Titans (3)

    Summing it up:

At the end of the day the Texans have the best hopes of getting to the playoffs but loosing their starting TE (with the backup already out) is a big blow for their passing game, Schaub's health is also a question mark since he always gets hurt. But they have the best chance of going 10-6 out of these teams.
The Chargers are out of this race because they go against the NFC East and of their suspect run D. No way they get to 10-6, if they finish 9-7 they have a hope but I don't know the rules if 2 teams finish 9-7.
The Dolphins have a favourable schedule but have Henne under center and if you can stop their wildcat they have nothing on offense. The Jets kindly gave them 2 wins keeping their hopes alive and if they end up 9-7 (which they could) having won so many div games will favour them. If they finish 9-7 and the Texans do the same the team that goes to the playoff is the winner of the MIA vs HOU match or the one with the best div record?
As for the Jets we still have a glimmer of hope of going 10-6 but we are going to need to win the games we must win and pull up strong performances against Falcons, Bengals and Pats which are pretty good teams. Will we be able to pull it together? We'll just have to wait and see.

    1. Texans
    2. Jets
    3. Dolphags
    4. Chargers

You know your team is fucking up when you're doing the math at week 8 to see if your team can squeak into the playoffs.

as long as the Bengals and Steelers are fighting for their division, one of them will take the wildcard spot.

the other spot is open for everyone, and its probably going to be the Texans, Jets, and chargers who are looking at that spot.

We tie the Texans record, we go to the playoffs. The Texans lost Owen Daniels for the season.

EDIT: I also forgot the Ravens, whoops.

The Jets aren't making the playoffs.

3 teams from the AFC North will be going to the post-season.

hehe :) I just did it because people are debating about it only looking at how the Jets play and not at the whole situation of the teams we are going against.

PS I can see us being 9-6 before the final game of the season and the Texans being 10-5 and somehow the Pats give the game away to them.
You see Rex, it's always a good idea to kiss Belichik's rings... you never know when it will come back and haunt you :p (I'm joking of course).

Is it possible? I thought you looked at the best 2nd placed teams only.

There are 3 teams alive for the playoffs in the AFC North; Steelers, Ravens and Bengals.

no the NFC East always has 3 representatives, and the Fins, Jets, and Pats have all made it in 2002.

i think your thread failed. Its cool, you learned something new - that's what this place is for :)

Minor correction - us Fins are actually 3-0 in the division, not 3-1.

The funny thing is that we have a pretty good playoff team... cold weather, we have a good run game, good O-line, and good D... that can get you pretty far... the bad news is, we're not going to actually make the playoffs... but it's fun to talk about it :)

Ravens has a pretty tough schedule.. I wouldn't give it to them so easily. I think Miami also has a shot, they have a pretty easy end of the schedule. Also with the Bengals, I'm not completely sold on them. I think they are very beatable, hope Steelers to get the division.
I think 11-5 will get us in the playoffs for sure.. and 10-6 will most likely get us in. That's because they playoff contending teams play each other often..
