We used the Oakland blue print in the first half and walked out with a 3 3 tie. Unlike Oakland Miami didn't go away the first time they got poped in the mouth by the big talking Jets. As comfortable as you felt we trailed in that game almost the entire game and the Phins when it mattered shoved the ball down our throats and we couldn't stop it. Without the deep passing game we find a way to lose this one 13 to 10 instead of 30 to 25. We played a team that is terrible defending the pass and played it safe and once they got the lead it was over, see you goodbye charlie. Rex has got to start acting like a HC and if Shotty isn't his guy get someone else. I have no love for Shotty but Westhoff was calling the Special teams and Rex called the defense that allowed Ricky Williams an 11 yard run right up the gut of his D on 3rs and 10.
We did not use the Oakland blueprint in the first half. Mark Sanchez attempted 18 passes in the first half. That's more than he had the entire game in Oakland. I'm sorry but you're not looking at what actually happened on Sunday. We went to a balanced offense in the first half and got nothing out of it. On our one possession down low we ran 3 times effectively and then passed twice ineffectively. The Oakland blueprint would have had the Jets run the ball 25 times in the first half with maybe 11 pass attempts by Sanchez. BTW, all the extra pass attempts by Sanchez took the ball out of Shonn Greene's hands almost entirely in the first half. What was the point of that?
I think a well-coached team would have been calling timeouts on the last drive in the first Miami game to conserve clock for an offense that had gotten the lead three of four times. A well-coached team would have taken the ball out of Sanchez' hands against Buffalo, who clearly couldn't stop the run. A well-coached team doesn't get called for drive killing penalty in field goal range in OT. Or get called for an illegal shift on a 2pt conversion yesterday. A well-coached team would have called the right plays to gain 6 yards on 2nd and six with the game on the line, not have Sanchez throwing it. I'm perfectly happy with the wins over Houston and the Pats, but lets be honest, neither team was hitting on all cylinders when we beat them. And the other teams we beat, the Titans and the Raiders, might be the two worst teams in the league. I see a lot of sloppy play, blown tackles and penalties, and really stupid offensive playcalling. I like the effort, and I like the attitude. I think the Jets could be pretty good in a couple of seasons. But the honeymoon for Rex has to end sometime. His opposite number in Foxboro isn't exactly learning on the job.
No they didn't mail it in, but they lost regardless. I like the character too. I just don't like the character running the show as much as I used to. Also, ya know bud, every year it's something with this team. last year it was Favre's injury. years before that it was Pennington's injuries, the OL injuries, Herm, Herm, Dick Curl, Herm, Hack-it the list is endless
I feel your pain...really I do. But believe me...the Jets are on the right track.....I didn't think it was going to happen this year anyway...which is probably why I'm not feeling the urge to jump off any bridges....like some of the other posters. I'm taking an objective approach to this season.....basically, my approach is to evaluate what we have at the QB position, watch Rex's coaching tendencies, and see what we have overall as a team. The next 2 seasons will be vital.....this one....I'm not puttin a lot of stock into.
I think he'll be fine - maybe he just needs to stop by the Giant's offices and punch Gilbride in the face - I'm sure it will make him feel better.
Yep that's all true. But the naysayers and everyone is down on Rex, Schotty, Woody, etc keeps forgetting one important change. Since 1998 the Jets have been a legitimate playoff team almost every other year. Getting to the playoffs 50% of the time is better than 0% which is what this team was doing from 1970 to 1997. I think a majority of the realists are happy with Rex and we understand that there will be growing pains. Same goes for Sanchez and the whole offense. We need to keep it together for consistency and not jump ship on a coach every time they lose a game.
The loss is all on poor special teams play. 2 KO returns in 1 game will beat almost every time. Add in the fumble return of Greene's for a TD and that 21 freebie points. That is why we chalk up an L and no other reason.
I don't get why people are getting on Rex for not challenging that fumble. You CANNOT challenge a play when the refs rule him DOWN! Its moronic that you can't challenge a player being down but thats the rules. Don't blame rex for that blame the NFL.
We got closer to a SB in 82 than we did in every year since with the exception of 98. With the exception of 98 every year we made the playoffs you had to run it through a computer to figure out if we should go or not. With the exception of 98 we haven't exactly knocked down the door and said we belong we are a legit SB contender we have softly knocked in the middle of the night and asked politely if we could come to the dance we promise not to hang around past midnight.

The loss to Buffalo and the two to Miami are as frustrating as the complete melt down by this team last year. This team has talent, so did last years Mets but they lack something, brains, heart, courage, home? We need to follow the Yellow Brick Road.
Team A gets beat twice by Team B, but its obvious that Team A is the better of the two despite losing twice. Then you hope that Team A beats Team C twice, because those two wins will make it obvious that Team A is better than Team C. I'm a little confused by that logic.
It's not the fact that they're 4-4 after 8 weeks that bothers me so much as the way they've lost 3 out of the 4 games. They should be 7-1, instead, we're 4-4. Honestly, does anyone actually think we're going to the super bowl with this team this year, especially after losing Leon and Jenkins less than half way through the season? For me to get really upset, I'd have to believe they could win a championship, and I simply don't believe that so, while yesterday's game was frustrating, I don't get that upset because I don't believe we're going to be hoisting a lombardi this year anyway. I'm very pleased with the first half play of our defense though, that's something we can build on for sure.
Actually, you can challenge that now, as long as it's clear who recovered the fumble -- so that's the real question is whether video evidence would show that conclusively.
well I dont think many thought the cards were making it last year.. If you get in you never know.. I'VE SEEN MORE POSITIVES THEN NEGATIVES THIS YEAR THATS FOR SURE
What's frustrating is that 3 of the losses were clearly winnable and something derailed the Jets along the way. That's a horrible state of affairs and it is much more damaging for the team's psyche than just losing games outright is. Every player in that locker room is looking at somebody else and thinking "that guy cost us a game". The truth is more complicated than that, but you'll still see it happening. The truth is that we have a rookie head coach and a fourth year offensive coordinator and the balance of power there is too close to let the team get on one track and run up it. This is why the Jets numbers look so schizophrenic from one game to the next with passing attempts going up and down like a rollercoaster. The truth is that our depth is too shallow to allow the Jet's level of play to stay consistent from game to game and series to series. Danny Woodhead is not even on the field yesterday if Jason Trusnik didn't get traded for Braylon Edwards (and yes I support the trade but it is indicative of the Jet's depth problems that every time they solidify at one position they open up holes elsewhere.) The truth is that we took a major risk by trading up for Mark Sanchez (another move that I fully support) and Shonn Greene (not so much given the Jets can't or won't exploit his talents to their fullest - an inexplicable and inexcusable failure on their part given that they gave up depth to get him and created weakness elsewhere on the roster) and now our offensive staff appears to be doubling down on the Sanchez gamble by hitching the offense to him and living or dying with his performance. The truth is that we have an aging and brittle team that has gotten lucky with injuries over the last few seasons and our window to actually win a Super Bowl with this squad is extremely small given the value we have invested in contracts for current roster players. The truth is that the Jets really are a middle of the pack team still in decline despite all the big splashes of the last few years and we'll probably have to start over again in a couple of years. The truth is that the Jets need to get a real football person with some heft in here to run the team if they want to create long-term success and keep that stadium packed on yearly basis. Ok enough truth because as a long-term fan looking at the Jets right now depresses me nearly as much as they ever have except in the pits that they've fallen into now and then.
