Nothing Else Matters this Year Except for Sanchez's Continued Development!

    I will be honest:

I hate that the Jets lost to the Dolphins.
I hate how the Jets lost to the Dolphins.

The Dolphins won because of a flukey game - the Jets did it several years back against the Bills with Chad Morton returning 2 TDs on kick-offs.
We deluded ourselves into thinking that Jet team played great that day - just like the Dolphin fans have been doing since yesterday afternoon.
The bottom-line for the Fish is that they played horrible yesterday and lucked out with a win.

But I really don't care anymore about that today.

And the reason why is that the day Jets named Sanchez starting QB, we all knew this season was going to end with 8-8/7-9/9-7 record and no playoffs.
We can fool ourselves in the pre-season or after a 3-0 start that the Jets were destined to beat NFL history and go to the promised land with a rookie QB.
That hasn't happened and will never happen in the NFL.

We also fooled ourselved after the Edwards trade.
We all knew the Jets needed a WR - whether it was going to happen in the draft or free agency or as luck would have it with a mid-season trade courtesy of a boneheaded decision by the Browns. Tannenbaum "bought low" with this trade and gave his rookie QB another weapon to learn and develop with. Edwards helps Sanchez develop this year - that is why he was brought in and that decision will pay huge dividends next year. He isn't going to push this team to the top as it will only go as far as Sanchez takes it.

All that matters is that Sanchez continues to pass each of his 16 tests in 2009. Now by passing, I don't mean winning every game - I mean working through the adversity that each week and each set of circumstances provides. And each week he has done that - whether we like the results or not - and proven at the very least that he is made up of something different than other QBs we have had.

For sure, Sanchez isn't Ryan Leaf. He still has a lot to learn and most importantly he acknowledges that and continues to work hard at succeeding. If you can't see that despite all the Fish nonsense, than you are missing the forest for the trees:

The Jets possibly have something with Sanchez that we haven't seen in Jetland for quite a long time and that should be exciting for every Jet fan.

For those who love QB Ratiing, Sanchez has had 80-114 QB Rating except the Saints and Bills losses. Not many rookie QBs stay so consistent in that range all rookie season.

He's had two really bad games out of a possible 8. Thats really impressive. I think he should be able to sling it when he needs to, he has the ability and sunday showed it.

Luckily for me - That was my goal at the start....

See the develment of Sanchez and see the development of the defense....

I think in year 2 with this defense, add a piece or 2, add some DL help - Add some CB help and then take another step....

The war isn't over - Miami and the Jets are on a collision course where a few matchups in the near future could be for a lot more marbles... And THAT is the game(s) we want to take and laught at...

Last year's loss to end the season didn't kill me (we were dead already), MNF sucked big time, this loss ok - But, next year with the playoffs on the line and both teams real contenders - THAT is the game I want to smack them silly in...

I'll wait - Rex is pissed and he's going to put alot of offseason time in on beating Miami.... Let it burn him for now.

Agree 100%. Also organizationally we are finally signing and drafting players of the caliber we need to win long term.

Prepare to get skewered though, you are being to rational and patient.

I agree that Sanchez is the real deal and this season is a learning experience and a series of tests.

To this point I think he's done great. I don't want to give up on this team just yet though.

    We have the-

    Jags- W
    Pats- ?
    Panthers- W
    Bills- W
    Bucs- W
    Falcons- ?
    Colts- ?
    Bengals- W

I think we can beat all the question marked teams if we play a complete game and there are no major mishaps on any of the phases.

    Just keeping hope alive!!

Well looking at the schedule right now it seems we are most likely going to go 8-8 unless some miracle happens after our bye week (we usually do come out of the bye week strong)

    Jacksonville- W
    New England- L
    Carolina- W
    Buffalo- W
    Tampa Bay- W
    Atlanta- L
    Indy- L
    Cincy- L

Those are the games that we should win and should lose looking at the schedule. Barring any stunning losses, we would somehow need to get 2 more wins ontop of the 4 to even sniff the playoffs. I think theres no way we will beat the Colts and the Pats won't let us beat them twice in a row. That leaves Atlanta and Cincy. We need to win those games and somehow get to 6-2 after the bye.

While that was all hopeful thinking, in reality we won't make playoffs most likely but its great for Sanchez to have a year under his belt. Going into next season his chemistry with the recievers will only improve and we will see something very special.

i think we have a really good shot at beating the colts, their biggest stregnth on offense is their passing game and thats our biggest strength on defense ... we'll probably win 1 or 2 of the "tough" games and lose 1 or 2 of the "easy" games

but like the op said, this season is about sanchez and this defensive unit getting their feet wet and i like what im seeing from both parties

    :eek:fftopic:
does anyone know why mount cody isnt in anyones top 32? there are like 3 or 4 dt's ranked ahead of him in every board ive seen ... if we finish 8-8, given a first half where we should be 6-2, maybe we can trade down, pick up a few more picks and get this guy ... i think having a 3-4 line like baltimores (with gregg and ngata) would be huge for our run stopping ability!

I agree that's why I outright hate the fact that we took the air out of the ball in the first half and let a crappy team hang around just to protect our QB. If you don't have a game plan to let Sanchez attack what may be the worst pass defense in the NFL, you're ultimately holding the kid and this team back.

A moron?? No, a Fan yes.

If you're just can sit in your own piss and vomit and whine why bother?

I hope we win every game, and we should win those games.

Thanks for your valuable input, I forgot we lost to Bills in OT.

Also I did think games are guaranteed, they aren't?? Damn all these years I thought games were fixed. Thanks for that nugget too.

Big Ben didn't win a championship.
He did have a good first year run with the Steelers:

YEAR TEAM G CMP ATT PCT YDS AVG TD LNG INT RAT
    2004 PIT 14 196 295 66.4 2621 8.9 17 58 11 98.1

HOWEVER, that team was/is significantly better than this year's Jets, as it was a Super Bowl caliber team w/ a rookie QB that won the Super Bowl the next year.

Trying to compare them to the Jets is just absurd.

put those useless sheets with wins/losses away unless you have all the games labeled with W's. What the hell is wrong with you?

That was a team that kept their rookie QB throwing the ball only 21 times a game. If the Jets had done that this year they'd be 6-2 right now.

The Colts game might not mean much to them towards the end of the season (might have home field wrapped up by then). The Bengals game scares me more, oh and we will beat the Falcons.

    You mean 5-3?

Sanchez played well yesterday and 21 pts off Greene fumble and Ginn returns aren't his fault.

The NO game? That is a stretch to say the Jets would have won that game. Granted Sanchez played bad, but he only put the ball up 27 times.

The first Miami game? Sanchez played well again.

The Bills game - that one I will give you as Sanchez was horrendous.

That gets the Jets to 5-3 with some healthy debate about the NO game.

No, I mean 6-2. There's no way the Jets lose 2 games to Miami this year if the coaching staff had a coherent game plan going into either game. They did not and so the Jets got swept by the Fins. Yes, the KR's were crucial but just as crucial was not establishing anything in the first half. The Jets should have just run the Fins over. Yes, they have a good run defense and no they didn't demonstrate an ability to stop the Jets from running in either game. When you have an inferior opponent and you can run on them you do that with a rookie QB.

I'd agree, although I'm not giving up on this season yet. I think we'll remain competitive to the end, although the increasing difficulty of our schedule makes a playoff run unlikely. Still, with 3 of our 4 toughest remaining games coming in the last 3 weeks of the schedule, I am looking to Sanchez to play better at the end. We'll have a chance against those three teams, and I actually think we match up particularly well against Indy. Either way, at the end of the season if Sanchez continues to grow as a player and we miss the playoffs, I'll be able to take something positive away. I didn't get that feeling in either of the last two years.

i can't count anything as a sure win for the jets. they'll probably outplay the teams that they should beat but they'll probably get picked off in at least one of them. We also know they'll never go into the Pats or Colts and steal a win like the Dolphins stole from us.

Absolutely true. Watching the first half, I just kept thinking "How the hell are we not running away with this game?" Too many passes falling at the feet of receivers. Granted, Sanchez played better as the game went on, but that first half was much more of a disaster than the scoreboard at the half indicated.
