I think Ryan has a lot of the intangibles you need in a HC. However, we are seeing a lot of on-the-job-training. At the beginning of the season, he was a little too "anything goes" and talking too much. Then after some problems, he went ultra-conservative (as we've seen the last two weeks). He will eventually find the right balance. Similarly, the clock managements/time outs are learnable skills (unless you are Herm Edwards). Now this doesn't make it any less frustrating to watch, but I think we all need to have a little patience with Rex. He's got the passion....he's got a good personality....he knows defense. How to manage an entire team will come too. This is the right guy for the job.
amen, DBJ..... mistakes will be made....he flinched on challenging that Bess fumble.....but all in all, I'm satisfied with Rex's coaching style. He'll get better with experience.
agreed and i think the same goes for the qb. All these tough losses make it hard to keep faith but when your able to maintain rationality, its easy to see we have a bright future, we just have to be a little patient. Unfortunately the jets have made that tough to do with their history but I still feel good for the future.
The loss sux but 2 day wasnt our day...I think Ryan is gonna be a better coach given experience also. ...exhale. I hate the phish.
Yeah, I think most of us, myself included, got a little caught up in the early success. They played good solid football the first 3 or 4 games and I kinda thought maybe, just maybe, we wouldn't see all those rookie/newbie mistakes. Wrong!! They caught up in a hurry. Really though, I like the direction our team is heading in. And to think over the last 2 weeks, we have lost our best defensive & offensive players, yet we still look competitive. The 2nd 1/2 of the season doesn't get any easier, so I hope over the bye week, they can get some of these wrinkles ironed out.
Agreed Like Sanchez, Ryan is going through growing pains as well. I'm willing to deal with it. I'm a huge fan of his. For perspective, I was a huge fan of Herm and hated Mangini for the most part
Agreed. What pisses me off is listening to some fans overeact at some of the mistakes Ryan and Sanchez make. Their both rookies and I think both have the potential to lead this team going forward.
Of course you're right, DBJ. When the Jets were 3-0 people were saying "Sanchez and Ryan look great, but you know there will be some bumps along the way." Then the bumps come and people are outraged. This wasn't going to be a SB year, and I think both Sanchez and Ryan have shown more than enough to believe that they can be the real thing.
I think however it is hard when we lose games it is those surprise games that kills ya like rushing for 300+ yards and losing, the offense do well and the defense failing, or the offense and defense do well but the special teams fail big time.
Three of the last four weeks have been absolutely miserable because I think we had the better team. We have lost because of frustrating rookie mistakes both at the quarterback and the coaching level. But rookies get experience and learn from the kind of mistakes that have cost these games. As for the abilities Sanchez brings to the table and intangibles Coach Ryan bring to the field, I'm all in as a fan and still excited about the future. Plus, I still haven't given up hope that the future can start this year. I see no games in the second half of the year that can't be won.
I can excuse rookie mistakes, both by Ryan and Sanchez. Mistakes and INT's will happen. What gets me regarding Sanchez was his ball security in earlier games... the fumble in the end zone against NO, his general tendency to hold the ball away from his body even when he carries it on a called play. That shit was inexcusable, high school stuff. I was happy to see him carry the ball against his body today on the TD run. It just took too long for the light bulb to go on. The play in NO should have taught him something, but better late than never, he did protect the ball today even when he had a clear path to the end zone. I would also like to see him talking to team mates and coaches more often on the sidelines. There are no coffee breaks in the NFL. He should at the very least be looking at overhead pics of the defensive alignments. Where the fuck is the QB coach? I could give a shit if he was eating steak tartar on the sidelines, as long as he is still working the game in one way or another. Again, despite some dolts here that think I hate Sanchez, I do not. Just because I do critisize him does not mean I want him to fail or even as some complete asshole accused me of "gloating" in Sanchez's mistakes, I want to see progress. I saw progress today.
Ryan's going to be fine. The Jets need to let him go pick an offensive coordinator after the season. His guy, who is clearly clued into Ryan's game plan and style.
I thought Rex had the team very well prepared today. It's very hard to coach players out of stupid mistakes like the Greene fumble and the missed tackles on Ted Ginn. Today was the first game of the season where the Jets lost and I am not disappointed. I think everyone on the team stepped up and they put together a great game. The Sanchez/Keller tandem needs work but will be lethal soon. Look, the Jets are not making the playoffs this year. If you thought they were, you were getting wrapped up in the hype and a great start out of the gate but it just ain't happening. Still, I see a team on the upside. Rex Ryan is already a better coach than Herm or Mangini and will get better. Sanchez has a lot to work out but is having an extremely good season for a rookie QB. The defense is doing a lot with what is honestly not that much talent outside of Harris, Scott and Revis. There is a lot to like right now. My only complain about Sexy Rexy Ryan - those 2 point conversions are indefensible. They didn't lose us the game today but they need to stop that shit immediately. A fake punt is one thing - it's high risk, high reward and it shows balls. A two-point conversion at the wrong time is just . . . Hermish.
Sanchez is a bright kid. I don't think a new system would be a problem for him. I think his skill set are better suited for a true West Coast offense anyway.
Unfortunately, those inappropriate 2-point conversions did partially cost us the game. If those extra points are converted instead, a FG at the end of the game sends it into overtime. But, overall, Rex is a great coach for this team and those mistakes will hopefully stop.
i dont agree with the ultra conservative part. i think this loss today had nothing to do with rex being a rookie head coach. how can you prevent two kick returns and a fumble return?
If the Jets don't go for two the first time, then Miami doesn't try it and fail and the Jets are still down 4 at the end.
