Just pin it on the kick returns Guys all these threads blaming the OC, Sanchez, Ryan etc.... Are nuts. This is the first team we have played twice under Ryan and guess what what ever changes or film study took place we improved immensely, Ryan has to get credit for this. One offensive turnover is accepatable it was bad in fact it ended up being a touchdown but still only one turnover. As far as 2pt conversions I agree just kick the extra points but remember the decision to go for two is the most easy decision to monday morning QB, after we sit back look at final score etc..... If we kicked extra points we still end up being down by 4 as Miami does not go for two. Our special teams cost us the game, our defensive was borderline dominant today other then two runs and we lose because we can't tackle a fucking guy. PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!!!!!!!
Your right, I couldn't have said it better myself. Also, why/how is our kicker making two tackles on kick offs?
Wish we would have activated Brad Smith instead of Danny Woodhead. Even with his injury, he still would have made a difference in the KRs
Special Teams gives up two long tds, Defense gives up a TD and offense is conservative and then can't score at the end.......Team loss guys
That second return is an embarrasment. Ginn is basically stopped at the 15 yard line and doing little shimmies and we can't lay a finger on him, then he just burns it.
yeah but if we blame it on the k.o. returns we can't make threads firing and benching everyone involved in the game.then what would we do for 2 weeks?
I've seen blame placed on nearly everyone, from Schottenheimer to Ryan, to Greene to Woodhead to Feeley. Why is Westhoff off the hook here? Why didn't he address the problem after Ginn's first TD? Why did Feeley AGAIN not play safety on the return? Why did outside contain break down the second time, again? Why did Feeley fail to direct his kicks two times? We know Westhoff is one of the best, but he's gotten a free ride on this MB and the loss is on him more than anyone else. You need to name a scapegoat? Make it Westhoff.
The second kickoff return there were missed tackles. Even the first one, the palyers took horrible angles
I think he will be beating himself up over this more than anyone, and we don't know what instructions were given, yet.
Maybe because when you survive 3 regime changes and you rank at the top of the league year in and year out you get a pass on a game like this, no matter how bad the sting. If back to back TDs happen again then we can question if Westy has lost his touch. Attacking Westy over one rare occurrence would show that this board is as retarded as I think it is.
^This. One really bad showing does not put a dent in years of excellent coaching. If it becomes a pattern then we can start wondering.
33 year old Jay Feely isn't going to make an open field tackle on Ginn. Contain broke b/c we had the same people out there and they didn't have the ability shed a block and tackle Ginn. (I'm looking at you, Woodhead)
How is it Westhoff's fault that the first kick was a line drive and not in the corner as his scheme dictated it? You can argue that it is Westhoff's fault that they did not squibb after that, but lets be real here... our STs have been pretty much ELITE for as long as I can remember, as long as Westhoff has been here, so I don't blame anyone for thinking that a 2nd kick returned for a TD was pretty hard to fathom. Also we had the guy on that 2nd one, that was just some really great work by Ginn to get out of a sticky situation adn then turn it on upfield. The only questionable decisions IMO were to not activate B. Smith and A. Caroll for this game, I think if they were on the field instead of Woodhead and whoever else, those returns don't happen.
Attacking? Give me a break. Just laying whatever blame there is to be laid upon the coach who is responsible. One TD return, OK, it happens. Two is pretty bad. I'm sure Westhoff feels like it was his fault. I did not say he lost his touch. I say he had one of his worst games in his career. Is that inaccurate? My point is a simple one. People are laying blame all over the place. Westy had a bad game, let's call it what it was. The special teams lost this game. Westy is the ST's coach. It's really that simple. And you really do have a hard time resisting turning every thread into a personal attack, don't you? I'm retarded? Solid debate there, I must say.
I'd say he's partly to blame, at most. The arm tackles and band angels are all coaching but this is not the way that his special teams unit performs. Also, Feely should be getting a little bit of the blame too. Everyone (myself included) thought it was pretty cool seeing Feely run down the field and making the tackle but the problem was that he was breaking his own contain assignment. The kicker stays back so there is at least someone to try and push the runner out of bounds. Feely running down there, while entertaining, creates a big risk. After 9 years in the league, he has to know better than that.
Westhoff has been so consistently good over the years, it seems easier to blame the players. He seemed pretty damn pissed off about it though.
