Being that Leon is out for the season and Brad Smith is out week to week for who knows how long.. How do we run the Seminole ??? Will this offense be extinct for most of this year now. Or is there somebody capable of running that style of offense for us? Can't say i don't like the offense because it has gotten us quite some first downs in recent plays..
It doesnt really matter because the seminole wasn't a big part of our offense? We may have run it like 3 times one game for about 20 yds, thats it.
yeah really.. it was no where near as predominant to our offense as the wild-cat is to miami.. not really a big deal.. I'd rather play smash-mouth with TJ and Shonne anyway..
The only reason to run the Seminole is if you have two runningbacks you'd rather have on the field than your QB. The Dolphins run it only because they don't have a good QB who is capable of running the offense and keeping the mo when he is the main actor. Chad Henne may yet take over that role. Chad Pennington was not capable of maintaining the flow they needed even last year when he was going good. They needed the Seminole as a change of pace, and Brown and Williams were more dynamic in their offensive schemes than Chad was so they needed a way to make both of them contributors from the same sets. The Jets use of the Seminole in 2006 (which they did, with Brad Smith lined up in the shotgun as "QB") was to cover the fact that their offense was not capable of moving well with Chad behind center and no dominant skill players around him in the offense. Their use of the Seminole this year was just a mistake. Yes it produced yards and first downs but it thoroughly distracted the coaching staff from the primary objective of setting up an offensive scheme that could move the ball without gimmicks and manufacture points against tough defenses. It also interfered with Sanchez development as a QB, and they need to stop using it now that the primary player that it highlighted is no longer available for the season. Lining Brad Smith (or anybody else) up in that formation moving forward will be a major brainfart on the part of the CS.
That's probably a good thing (not leon being injured, but not running the seminole) as it will help prevent Schottenheimer from thinking too much and complicating the offense, which I would say is everybody's major complaint with the guy. Hopefully he will just pound the ball all day with TJ and Greene and eat up clock and minimize turnovers.
That's what I thought. Rex said everybody should be ready to go expect Lito. I'm sure that can change, but the OP sounded like he heard otherwise
how is this a big question when its run 3 times a game? how about this team run the football properly and not out of some gay formation? Shonn Greene>Seminole
I don't think there is anything gay or lame about the formation. It's pretty basic stuff that's been a part of the NFL for 90 seasons, although it's made a big reappearance after basically being in hibernation for quite some time. If the Jets want to run something out of that formation once or twice a game with Brad Smith, it would be okay.
i personally need QB/running game vs Defense all the time. I hate seeing a QB on the sidelines watching. I just find that style of play a lot more pleasing than RBs vs defense.
Brad Smith should be back tomorrow and we could either use him, Woodhead or just not run the Seminole anymore.
