does anybody else think if anyone could get anything out of him it would be Rex? I mean clearly the kid has some physical talent but just can't cover a man to save his life. You think Rex could use him as say a safety to blitz with his speed?
Miller mad huge improvements in coverage before he got hurt. But IMO, He isn't ready to be in a DB position..... That's not to say that REX won't find a role for him down the line. Let's not forget, the guy likes to hit and has speed. But 4 now, Catch it and go J-Millionz!
Notice I never said anything about his coverage skills. From what I remember he was always a big hitter. Like I said, I can see Rex finding him useful as a situational BLITZER.
I agree 100% that Justin Miller should be used in situational packages. I'm not sure what his role will be, exactly, but Miller is super athletic and has good size. Rex will find a role for him to play. Look at Eric Smith and even Drew Coleman- these are 2 guys that everybody was down on, but they both have made some decent plays for the Jets so far this year.
Do y'all remember when we had that ongoing discussion (while Miller was still on the team) about how he would translate to Safety bc his man cover-skills were terrible? Since he's been re-signed, I've seen several posts mentioning the possibility of Miller blitzing, which I think could work. And what about a Safety role in Rex's D; think Miller can learn something from Leonhard and back him up?
Miller is Gholston lite. He has a great body and great straight-ahead speed and that's it. He does NOT have "great athleticism" or anything with 100 miles of football instincts. He was not repeatedly waived because of a body odor problem.
Eh, he's definitely athletic and he used to have instinct (just watch his college highlights). But he clearly didn't bring that with him when he was drafted.
Whatever he had is the past... he'll be around for half a season and probably training camp next year to show it. If he can bring something as a DB I'm sure Rex and the scouting department will evaluate it. They did want to bring him back when Lito and Strick got hurt so the must think he can play at DB right?
all Miller needs to do is show some of the spark that made him a pro bowl returner for the Jets a few years ago
i have no expectation of miller making any significant contributions on defense, but he is very athletic and if rex can find a role that fits his skill set he could help out on defense. i will consider this signing a success if the kick return game sees no drop in production from leon. if miller proves to be anything besides a good kick returner its just gravy.
Am I the only one who felt as though Miller was "walking" the return upfield? I guess that most of us remember the Miller of old, and have been spoiled by Leon since then, but you really have to wonder whether they're going to keep this guy around, since we probably have at least 2 or 3 guys on the squad that could have put up similar numbers yesterday.
Yea he's definitely lost a step. I was disappointed with what I saw, and was really hoping he'd respond to one of Ginn's returns with one of his own.
I was just hoping for a return to the 45 to be honest. Miller got us to what the 32 as his best return? just not good enough as an NFL return man who returns like 6 kicks in a game to have his best return be less than 30 yards...
