I'm really trying to look at this situation in a positive light as best as i can. This coaching staff was not giving Greene any time at the RB position before LW went down. The type of offense we were supposed to be was a smash mouth run first offense, which we haven't really been. The loss of LW forced our CS to take Greene out of mouthballs and give him the rock. The kid comes in the game cold and runs for almost 150yds. COLD! Just think of what this kid can become once he gets in the swing of things! I also think that LW's injury will save us $ when we do his new contract.
I will miss Leon for the 2-3 plays a game he would usually have that would be difference makers. Not really so much in the return game. In recent years, I've seen Chad Morton, Justin Miller, and Leon rack up pro-bowl trips due to the return game. While its not just a plug-and-play position, with the great special teams play of all the other guys on the field blocking and Westhoff's designs and schemes, I predict we will see somebody return a KO for a TD in the next few weeks. Feel free to quote me on that. And it won't make you forget Leon, but it will put the loss of Leon in its proper perspective; we will be fine returning kicks.
I think the CS clearly saw a lack of receiving depth so they gave him a chance. I will give the CS some credit. I have a good gealing about this kid. He might surprise us
I love Leon and think he is a great player, but I do not think he is irreplaceable. Guys like Jenkins and Revis are irreplaceable. I think Shonn Greene will step in and do a solid job.
Leon being gone is a tough loss but only time will tell how bad it will really be for us. Hopefully someone can step up in his place.
Losing Leon is actually a pretty big loss. He was our number one screen pass guy and to lose that option just makes us even more vulnerable to the pass rush. Jones isn't a great catcher and the word from training camp is that Greene can't catch at all. Hopefully Anderson can step in a little and help in the HB catching game because it is a crucial aspect to our passing attack.
Lowery can also return kicks. He had a kick/punt return for a TD last preseason and was back there when Leon got hurt
Most of your posts make sense, my friend, but you might want to rethink this one. Justin Miller was dangerous alright... dangerous when handling the ball. He was a returning ball-handler's nightmare. I had a lot of high hopes for that young lad when I first saw him at TC, but now I'm glad he's gone for good. Waste of a good draft pick. You never knew what was going to happen with that ball when he was under it.
i haven't watched enough jets' games to give a good opinion on what he means to the team but from what i saw during the dolphins-jets game, washington was a hard ass runner... i'm glad he won't be there against miami.
Miller was one of the best kickoff returners in the league, even in his short time with the Raiders he was able to take it to the house a couple of times, don't minimize Leon's contribution there due to Miller's effectiveness. Leon brought a different element that this offense currently lacks, the speed part of out RB trio, to be Sanchez's dropoff valve and to be a weapon on KR at any moment, while he didn't return any for a TD he has on numerous occasions got us past the 40 yard line to start a drive.
I think that is a bit of an exageration. Jones, while certainly not as explosive as Leon has had some long plays from scrimmage, and Edwards and Clowney have take it to the house speed on any given play. We don't know if Wooghead can be a third and long RB yet, but he might be. Again, not Leon, but perhaps servicable in that role, maybe in the return game too.
Nothing like looking at the bright side of a train wreck. I suppose Jenkins is just filling holes too? Any fat ass can do that job???? It's going to take multiple roster spots to replace his effectiveness. Look at some stats; Leon lead THE LEAGUE for combined yards in 2008. If thats not significant, then your credibility for making this thread is similarly not significant.
People don't know this but Woodhead is measurably more athletic then Leon is >_> Leon: 4.42 forty, 11.62-11.68 in the 60 yard shuttle Woodhead: 4.33-4.38 forty, 11.2 in the 60 yard shuttle
Woodhead also had a torn ACL between then and now. Not sure how accurate those stats are anymore. Although, Woodhead's then-torn ACL is better than Washington's presently broken fibula so it's probably a wash at this point.
Danny Woodhead might look more athletic by the numbers, but i doubt he is as strong as leon. Leon always surprised me with his ability to use the power of his legs and push through guys twice as big as him.
