I always have been. The Jets biggest single season turnarounds have always come in years when they hoarded picks and used them wisely. See 1996-1997 and 2005-2006 as the most recent examples. In both cases we were a franchise on the rocks and we came back from the dead. We found people like Jason Ferguson on the latest of picks and they made huge contributions. People like to look at the Parcells drafts and say that all the draft picks made no difference. Well if you make the majority of the picks on the defensive side of the ball (as the Jets did) and then switch from a 3-4 to a 4-3 immediately afterwards (as the Jets did) that's going to happen.
I really don't see the need to go out and make a trade for a NT. We have a very large athletic corp. of LB who can play on the LOS including BT and VG who appears might be better on the LOS than standing. Harris can play the middle and Scott and Pace can play anywhere on the LOS inside or OLB. Ellis can play inside or outside in a 4/3 as can Douglas and Pouha as a tackle in a 4/3 might actually excell? Stay with what we have and draft a NT or go back to a 4/3 and add some depth and flexability.
We just need to ride out the season with what we got and then spend money like the Yankees when the cap goes away next year. Fuck anymore trades
Start a thread in the draft forum. I want to know who to start researching!!!! Mike, PLEASE DO NOT GIVE AWAY ANY MORE PICS!!!!!!!!!!
I would trade for Rogers not only for this year but for years to come. Who's going to run on the Jets with Rogers and Jenkins in the middle next year? Switch to a 4-3.
I'm sure that if the Jets could trade Vernon Gholston for Shaun Rogers they would. I doubt they can get that deal at this point.
Not even if a ton for 2011 players decide to declare in 2010? The uncapped year could have a huge effect on players' decisions to go pro, because 2011 would surely have a rookie salary cap under a new CBA - and if it's not a new CBA, it's a work stoppage.
I think Mr. Electric's response was a double negative, and therefore a positive. LOL!. I.E., there will be some quality nose tackles coming out in this draft.
You misread my post. I did not say trade Leon. I said I would consider trading Gholston, and as you also misread was not proposing that a package deal not be considered. As was also noted. I understand why everyone would prefer to not trade picks or players on the current roster, but with this D, with no adequate backup for Jenkins currently on the roster, a reasonable effort has to be made to replace him with a suitable player capable of starting and contributing. The preferences to avoid giving up picks or players like Gholston might have to give way to meet this very pressing need.
Mid and late round draft picks are overrated, especially when we're talking about depth. More often than not, players of very similar caliber go undrafted. This depth nonsense is a joke. We have quality depth all over the place, and the average starters age is well on the bright side of 30. I mean, we don't have a top 3 NT or top 3 CB sitting on the bench? What teams do? Obviously 1st and 2nd round draft picks are key to getting young stars, but depth can and does come from other places.
How so? Just like every other team in the NFL we don't have a starting caliber NT wasting away on the bench. Define depth. What exactly do you expect sitting on the bench, a dozen or so all-pros?
Name a team that has significantly better depth on either line. A least let's level set here so we can have conversation not involving vague sweeping terms "depth wins championships".
The ability to substitute bench players for starters without a huge drop off in quality of play. That's my definition of depth. As it stands, it appears that DeVito and Paouha (SP?) will have to step up their game as they are the depth we have presently at the NT position with some real game experience. The 3-4 may have to be "tweaked" to a 4-3 just to stop the run. Again, now we'll see just how versatile our DRex personnel can be and how deep we really are or not.
c'mon man! while he's not the play maker he was a few years ago he's still very good. how often does he get beat or blow an assignment?
OK, so lets start comparing who they have sitting on the bench, and how many are starting quality second day picks...
