I can't believe the officiating in the NFL has become so crooked and faulty. First we get these rules in the offseason to ban the wedge on kickoffs, hitting a defenseless receiver and not allowing to hit the QB like anywhere at any time. Basically making this an almost a no-contact league. Then atop these rules, we've got the officials making very questionable calls, at least a couple, practically on every game. And even though the coaches challenges these plays, which are clearly gone the wrong way, the officials are too proud or something to admit their mistake and overturn the call. And finally, the show which usually has provide good indepth analysis on the weeks controversial calls, NFL.com's Official Review has become a joke. Mike Perreira used to admit the mistakes made by his guys, but this season he's just said that the referees have made the right calls, when ocviously they haven't. This weeks edition was just un-fucking-believable. Watch yourself and you'll understand. Like it seems Pereira has forgotten what the word integrity means.
If you're talking about the Redskins/Panthers play: it's a dumb rule, but it's the rule, and it was interpret correctly on the field.
Those a bit older than me may rember, but I belive the Defenseless receiver rule came out of the Night train Lane era when several qustionable plays such as the cloths line tackle were also outlaw. Chances are unless the OP is in his 60's and grew up with the rule and is vastly over reacting.
Yeah, dumb rule, but correctly called. They just did a poor job explaining things several times during that game. @topic, It?s not like the refs didn?t blow calls back in the days, but with about 35586893 cameras on every game, you just see every bit, and you see more BS calls because of it. agree on the 'don?t touch the QB'-BS, it?s getting too much.
the only rules i dont like are the fact qb's (and an elite few) get the calls they want. that and taking out the wedge from Special Teams is a fucking joke. scheming a good wedge and executing it is beautiful to watch . now theres fuckin rules designed to how far apart 2 player wedges can be and etc etc. load of shit.
Lets reinstate the "mass motion" plays then as well. 9 men link arms, stand 5 yards back from the line of scrimmage and run at the line into the defense. The ball carrier then runs over the broken bodies of the defenders. There used to be an average of one dead player each week before this play was made against the rules. What wimps football players are today.
Are you including the phantom pass interference call that put the Jets ahead in the 4th Quarter Monday night? I think there have been alot of borderline or bad calls, but to suggest the officials are "crooked" is just paranoia.
I don't see a problem with the fair catch rule not being active if your own player runs or is forced in to the receiver. the receiving team has to be aware of where they are. I don't see it as any different than if the returner lets the ball hit the ground, the blocker on the receiving team isn't paying attention and the kicking team pushes him into the ball, making it a live ball. the onus is on the receiving team, not the kicking team to be aware and stay out of those situations.
