www.jetsdaily.com Quick post-game thoughts... *Hats off to the Dolphins. Chad Henne played fantastic football, and the Jets had no answer for the Wildcat. The Jets' defense did not come to play today, and their play in the fourth quarter was absolutely abysmal. The Dolphins deserved to win, but the Jets' defense now has serious chinks in its armor that need to be figured out soon. *The game could have been much worse if it weren't for two fake punts and a huge pass interference call. The Dolphins were the better team, which is hard to admit, but they were on this day. If Henne can play like this, their offense will be pretty good all season. Because all of a sudden, the Dolphins are just a game back of the first place Jets and Patriots. *The Jets' two leading receivers didn't have any catches in green and white this season until today. Braylon Edwards and David Clowney showed up. Edwards couldn't have had a better debut, and Clowney showed he could make a few plays in the regular season as well. They were about the only bright spots for the Jets in this one. *Mark Sanchez continued to struggle. He made a few nice deep passes to Edwards and Clowney, but he made a number of bad throws. He didn't turn the ball over all game (neither did Miami), but he didn't make enough plays to win. *The running game was actually pretty good today, better than it had been. Leon Washington led the way with a very good game. Brad Smith and Steve Weatherford's fake punts definitely padded the numbers though. *Still, when all is said and done, the main culprit of this game is the defense. The linebackers were terrible all game. Calvin Pace kept saying he wanted to make an impact in his first game back. I didn't see it. Bart Scott and David Harris did not play well, and nobody tackled well. The Dolphins embarrassed the Jets with the Wildcat all day, and Chad Henne played better against this defense than Tom Brady, Matt Schaub, Kerry Collins, and Drew Brees did. The red zone defense which had been a strength all season long completely disentegrated. The line was consistently pushed backwards, and when Henne wanted to throw, he usually had guys to throw to, and he usually had time to throw. A week after the Bills sacked Henne six times, the Jets could not get a single sack. His passer rating? 130.4. Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. Terrible job by the Jets. I won't say same old Jets because that takes too much credit away from Miami. But two straight losses erases a lot of the good done in the first three weeks, and now that Houston, New England, and Tennessee don't appear to be as good as once thought, the question becomes how good are the Jets really? They need to be 6-2 at the bye. Buffalo, Oakland, and Miami again are now more pressurized games. Buffalo is close to a must-win because teams that want to make the playoffs can't afford to lose home divisional games to horrible teams like the Bills. Ryan called the game a "complete embarrassment." And he was right. He called it "a horrendous day for our defense." He is right. This has to change. I'm confident it will change, but the time is now. The Jets need to (and should) shred the Bills on Sunday to regain the swagger that they had early in the season or it could start to spiral out of control.
I agree 100% :up: I saw some positive things on O: Clowney & Edwards played well, although the pass interference was a weak call. Edwards made a few really great grabs though. Leon played well, and for the first time I was frustrated with Jones. I think he's a good running back when he hits the open holes, I don't understand the dancing though. Leon played well, Sanchez made good and bad decisions I like his guts, I do like his confidence in the pocket, he moves around well. I know Cotch was injured, but where was Keller? Really, really disappointed with the defense. I thought our D would score one this week. I'm not sure what happened, but Revis got burned for a Td, No turnovers, no sacks. That was a huge let down. They were given the game to win, and they lost it. Will say on a positive note, Jenkins is a beast and he was definitely held a couple of plays with no call.
Jones had good game, he ran hard. He ran with more passion than he had in the past.. If we had the ball a little more (no thanks to the defense) he would have broken some bigger runs.
I think the O earned their pay. Still not scoring a lot of points, but they are getting better. 27 is a good number. The D I think is buying into their own bullshit. Never gonna work. You need to be hungry all the time. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
I don't think Sanchez played poorly. He made a couple bad throws, but that happens to every QB every game. If he'd have played @NO like he did tonight that game would be a W. The D let us down big time tonight, something I didn't think I'd say all season.
Good write up by the OP. I said in another thread that Miami would run the ball well against you guys, and I was right. My biggest fears, having a weak secondary, came true - Sanchez lit us up....of course that PI on W Allen was bogus, but the rest of the deep throws were spot on by Sanchez. I am surprised they didn't hit the TE more over the middle though. I think you guys got a steal of a deal in Braylon Edwards. He had a huge and immediate impact on the game. I think both QB's played smart football....not turingin it over and making the most of what was given. I was thinking to myself after the 4th lead change...the team to have the ball last will win this game. True enough. Good game all around though guys..... Not a blow out some of you thought it would be.
The bottom line is that the Miami OL pushed the Jet front 7 around all night and the Jets did not tackle well. I don't get why the Wildcat is so hard to defend. 8 out of 10 times, Brown runs the ball. If you play to stop Brown, you stop the Wildcat. The Dolphins were the more physical team tonight.
Sad but true. Our front 7, especially the LBs, lost this game. I can't believe our offense came through and our defense failed. what a shocker
Sanchez was mediocre, he seemed to stare down his receivers again this game, and unlike Henne completely folds when he sees one guy in opposing colors coming his way even if at times he still had plenty of time to make an accurate throw. O-line did decent and surprisingly enough at run blocking more then pass protection. Our front seven was particularly terrible today, can't blame the secondary when Henne had all day and night to throw. This team is a straight up pure running offense, these guys can block and block well they do, otherwise this team wouldnt be able to gain a first down let alone win a game, the blitz was not the answer this game. Schotty is still calling some really really terrible fucking plays I want to throw up when they settle for a field goal by running it on 3rd and 9 or whatever it was. Well I mean if you want to win the fucking game take a shot for the endzone, they did it maybe last week or the week before a 3rd and long situation, inside or around the twenty and they fucking run it basically saying "well shit at least we'll get a field goal". You fucking fake a punt on your own side of the field but you wont take a crack at the endzone, AHH FUCK. Anyway, I'm always worrying for defeat every game we play, but this pussy play calling on offense has got to go, and if they don't trust Sanchez enough they better start running some hardcore run blocking drills because the run game obviously cant get it done alone and definitely not with conservative garbage play calling. I was happy though we ran some run plays to the outside which got the run game moving, Oh my god son, it took a good 5 weeks, and we threw some balls deep I almost cried. Anyway we still have a good team we need to fix some bullshit on this team and we will be ok, I hope! Dolphins are not a bad team, their defense is suspect but losing Pennington was the best thing for them Henne opens them up well, he has good presence and isn't afraid of the blitz and he has a good arm. Good job dolphins prepare to die at the Meadowlands. The wildcat works well because you have 8-9 men on the offensive line of scrimmage opening holes for the runningback. When that happens you have one on one blocking assignments and you only have to hold that block for a second or two before the running back is through. That plus the push the Fins get from that oline.
Other than the point about Sanchez not doing enough to win the game, because IMO he did more than enough, the points made in the OP were spot on. I couldn't have written the words better if I tried. Nice way not to sugercoat tonight's problems.
Don't worry, you guys got this against the Bills next game. Just make sure you do things a little better on defense and you should be good. The thing is, the bills don't have an Oline like ours and a running game like ours so they shouldn't be any worry. They are playing hurt, their tackles are down and they can't seem to score any points. Completely different game than tonight's game. Jet fans should be pretty confident about your next game.
I don't think Sanchez was terrible but I definitely saw some happy feet from him. He puts alot of zing on his balls but some were way off target. Edwards looks like he could be a real beast and we really exposed a weak link in their secondary with Will Allen (although that isn't a real surprise). I thought the 3 and out really hurt us. Had we been able to manage a little more possesion there we may have had the ball last and won the game.to I honestly think Ryan for the 1st time made some poor decisions. I thought by winning the toss we should have received. Part of the key to shutting down their one dimensional offense last year was putting them down early. It wasn't a terrible decision to kick but them going down and scoring first gave them alot of confidence. I also thought we blizted at some poor times in the game. They picked it up really well and it got us burnt a few times. The deep throws were nice but the way our D was playing they should have attempted to take some time off the clock but Ryan stuck with his guys and had confidence they would make a stop. It backfired but I don't think he would do it any other way. Injuries, they are never an excuse but the two biggest plays of the game at least on that last drive were given up by our 4th and 5th CBs. I don't know if Lito or Strickland make the plays but I don't think Camarillo gets that huge gain on 3rd down if they are in there. I think the injury to Cotch and Woody were alot worse then people believed as they were both fairly ineffective. I don't have any real issues with the playcalling other than I thought we abandoned the run there towards the end of the game. Jones and Leon were having success against them. I thought TJ looked better today then he has since week 1. I'm not concered, they are better than we gave them credit and we overlooked them. It doesn't make them a better football team and I fully expect these guys to take it personally that they were embarrased on national TV.
