Now that the draft is finally over and we have our new look O-Line and our other picks along with the FA signings, which players seem to be the odd man out from Herm and Bradways regime come June 1st? To me, possibilities are: Blaylock Pouha Ridgeway and possibly Rashad Washington
Blaylock won't be cut. He's not a "bradway" player, he was friggen hurt last yr. Ridgeway.. he's a fringe player no way to argue either way Pouha may go.
Just looking at the draft picks my count is 22 of the 36 are still on the team (I did this in my head my picks could be off a bit). Anyway of the 23 still on the team Jame Reed. Will probably stick around unless we pick someone else up. Bryan Thomas. Same. Chris Baker. Same. DeWayne Robertson. Not going anywhere. Victor Hobson. I think he is still safe. B.J. Askew. Guy seems like a waste to me, wouldn't be surprised if he goes. Brooks Bollinger. Sorry to see you go. Jonathan Vilma. The leader. Derrick Strait. Better find a role in the new D. Jerricho Cotchery. Give this man a chance. Adrian Jones. Starter on the new line. Erik Coleman. Days could be numbered if he doesn't rebound. Marko Cavka. Wouldn't have been sent to NFLE if they thought he could contribute. Trevor Johnson. I like this guys motor and think he will stick around. Rashad Washington. Could be a bubble guy. Mike Nugent. Not going anywhere. Justin Miller. Eventually a starter. Sione Pouha. Who knows, but I think they like his size in the middle, needs to step up. Kerry Rhodes. Like this guy roaming the middle. Andre Maddox. Barely got to know you. Cedric Houston. ??? Joel Dreesen. Think he is a keeper.
What is "our defense"? Don't you think that the coaching staff will analyze the players on the roster and design a scheme that will fit the players (to an extent) and accentuate the current strengths on the roster? There has been no indication that the team is going to the 3-4 exclusively. Sure in the future if D-Rob struggles are is clearly not producing in the scheme (whatever that may be) he will be moved/released. However, for a team that doesn't have a lot of potential impact players on either side of the ball, would make sense to just cut a quality defensive lineman just because he didn't "fit" into an as-yet-to-be-determined defenisve system?
I could swear we cut Reed a long time ago. Am I wrong here? This is the second thread I have seen where he is mentioned as still on the roster. DRob isn't going anywhere. Forget the contract talk. Forget that he may or may not fit into the new scheme. We drafted a DT who is perfect for the 3-4, but who is only good for 2 out of 4 plays. So far Pouha has shown nothing to give him the spot, so DRob will be given the opportunity to play, and I think he will fit in fine. He isn't really a 3-4 NT, but who knows? That was under Herm. I don't see many guys coming off the roster before August 1. I wouldn't be surprised if not one guy got cut until the first deadline. I think Mangini will give everyone a shot to win a job. Whoever floats to the top stays, whoever slacks, gets a note in their locker.
He's not quick enough to play DT, let alone NT in the NFL. This was a huge reach pick and I think he's likely to go this year, next year at the latest. Other people that I think are on the bubble include Victor Hobson (has no impact in games at all), Bryan Thomas (the new regime has no attachment to him at all and won't be keeping him around if he can't produce as a rush linebacker in the 3-4. He's too small to play DE in the 3-4), Derrick Strait (too slow to play corner, nickel or free safety, too small to play strong safety, not an impact player on special teams), Doug Jolley (better be able to play a role well given that he cannot block and is not a consistent dynamic receiver.) I would not be surprised to see three of the four players above gone by the end of camp.
Cut: Bollinger, Ridgeway, Morley, Washington, Snell, Neinhuis (or however you spell his name) Practice Squad: Missant, Katnick (and possibily signing Ridgeway to the practice squad) I would be worried if I was Dearth. All he does is LS (he sucks as a TE), and Mangini is looking for guys that can play more than one position. With Dreesen being groomed as a LSer all last year, and Teague having experience LSing, it does not look good for Dearth.
The good thing here is that it doesn't matter if they were drafted by Bradway, Tangini or Vince Lombardi. If they are good players who can contribute to the team, they will find a way onto the roster. If Pouha is better than Titus Adams, Pouha will play. If Ridgeway (doubtful) turns out to be a better receiver than Tim Dwight, they'll cut Dwight.
The Bradway Jets protected bad picks for too long. Everybody likes their picks but the last regime carried that to extremes. I'll be really happy if Mangini actually cuts a couple of people picked this year in training camp. It'll be the first time that's happened in about 5 years.
Fair enough. However, DRob hasn't exactly excelled most of the time he's been here. Since he is the highest paid player right now, I find this atrocious.
No Dewayne Robertson does not fit into our defense-but name another guy on our roster who does fit into the NT position
how can you cut Bollinger? He played so hard/retarded/scared for his life last year. He really won me over.
Bollinger did play hard last year, but it doesn't change the fact that he's a STIFF. I don't think he makes the squad.
