This could be a good thing or a bad thing. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2430107 Undrafted Hokie QB will get look from Dolphins -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By Len Pasquarelli ESPN.com Undrafted and still unsigned former Virginia Tech quarterback Marcus Vick will attend the Miami Dolphins' rookie mini-camp this weekend to audition for the team's coaches and personnel officials, ESPN.com has learned. The invitation comes with no strings attached and no promises of employment. League rules permit clubs to bring in a limited number of free agent rookies to participate in mini-camp sessions. Teams use the practices to evaluate the players on the field and the auditions often lead to contract offers. Whether the Dolphins decide to sign Vick, the younger brother of Atlanta Falcons star Michael Vick, probably depends on how well he performs this weekend. Dismissed from the Hokies squad in January, for what university president Dr. Charles Steger termed "the cumulative effect of legal infractions and unsportsmanlike play," Marcus Vick was not among the 255 players selected in the draft. Some teams inquired about him in the two days since the draft, but none offered a free agent contract. There is a possibility that, if the Dolphins don't offer Vick a contract and no other NFL club demonstrates interest in him, he might have to consider the CFL as an option for beginning his professional career. Miami lists just three quarterbacks -- recently acquired veteran Daunte Culpepper, untested veteran Cleo Lemon and Brock Berlin -- on its roster. Culpepper continues to rehabilitate from three torn ligaments in his right knee and it is not certain yet if the former Minnesota Vikings starter will be recovered for the start of the regular season. Lemon, a two-year veteran obtained last year in a trade with San Diego, has yet to play in a regular-season game. Berlin, viewed as a developmental-type prospect, is currently playing in the NFL Europe League with the Hamburg Sea Devils. The Dolphins have been attempting for weeks to complete the addition of former Detroit starter Joey Harrington, but the Lions have balked at Miami's trade offers. Beyond his off-field issues, Vick also lacks experience, and he appeared in just 24 games during his college tenure. He was redshirted as a freshman in 2002 and suspended from the team for the entire 2004 season. Vick split playing time in 2003 and then started all 13 games in 2005. Vick completed 207 of 346 passes for 2,868 yards, with 19 touchdown passes and 15 interceptions. At the combine workouts in February, he measured 6-feet and 200 pounds and he has been time at 4.47 in the 40-yard dash.
I consider this bad news. He has the talent to be a superstar in this league if he ever gets his head in the game... But why would they take ricky williams and Vick on their roster?
The more mobile "athlete" quarterbacks we face the better. I'd rather face a guy who can run really fast and throw really far than face Tom Brady and Peyton Manning on a weekly basis. It's not as if they can't be stopped. -X-
I'll wait until I see him practicing in person, before commenting at this early stage. One thing is certain in Miami, we need a back-up QB...
Miami hasn't has too much success with weirdos, psychos, and hotheads in the past. Ricky Williams Cecil Collins Dimitrius Underwood Sammie Smith Bobby Humphrey
What's even better, is that Marcus is touted as a mobile "athlete" quarterback, and he can't really scramble at all.
he can throw though, he's a much better passer than Michael ever was in college, in fact he's a better passer than mike vick right now. Marcus was a solid prospect, who barring trouble could have developed into a first round pick if he'd been able to stay at Va Tech,
Even though Marcus is an idiot, people underate him abit you have to remember last year was really his first season starting if progresses like most players do he could be a decent QB with his above average speed, not as good as a runner as Michael" but a better thrower. Although all of this could mean nothing if he cant smarten up and stay out of trouble which seems to be impossible for him do.
Yeah! And there's even more. Lamar Thomas threw his girlfriend threw a sliding screen door. Irving Spikes did something messed up- I don't recall exactly what. I was in Key West the weekend the Steelers played Miami in 2004. (I saw almost no people wearing Dolphins paraphrenelia that week. However, I saw Steelers fans at the airports in Atlantic City and Fort Lauderdale and all over Miami and Key West.) Anyway, Dan Lebertard had a good article about all the crazies the Dolphins had at running back through the years. It must have been in the Sunday edition of the Miami newspaper. It was Roethlisberger's first start, so it was Week 2 or 3. If anybody wants to archive that article and post it here, that would be good.
