If this was an isolated, first-time in trouble incident - it's a slap on the wrist. But he's been in Goodell's office already (more than once?). So what if the NFL decides to suspend him and for how long - what kind of impact on the trade for THIS year? And what if they make their decision on Friday, ruining our expected fish frying welcome on Monday?
At least it will give him time to learn our playbook. Luckily we don't have a tough schedule the next few games so all I really care about is that he's back and ready for the stretch run/playoffs.
I brought this up with a poster on IM this morning. I was guessing a 2 game suspension; he doesn't think anything will happen. If there's a suspension on Friday, I'd imagine it wouldn't take effect until after Miami. Generally, they like to keep the suspended player out of practice for the majority of the time. Wouldn't make much sense to only suspend him for 9 days on a 2 gamer.
I'm in love with the trade, and didn't mean to bring a dark cloud. Just wanted to balance the board with some yin to the yang - a very big and wonderful yang indeed!
If they're going to suspend him based on what they already know it will be this season. I'm guessing they'll avoid the controversy of suspending him after the trade and come down hard if anything happens again.
He pressed charges. The police are still investigating. The guy he popped, BTW, was 5'7" and 135 pounds. Edwards must have been drunk as a skunk that night to let that happen.
I wasn't really following that story since he wasn't a Jet. I gotta pick up on it now. I just thought the league was investigating it, and I wasn't sure if the police were involved. Thanks for the info.
The sex of the person Braylon hit doesn't work in his favor. The NFL usually only goes the light-discipline route when one of their own punches a wife, girlfriend, or other female bystander.
Even if he doesn't press chargers, Goodell can still go after him. The question here is if he violated the league's player conduct policy.
The NFL personal conduct policy explicitly states: "It is not enough simply to avoid being found guilty of a crime. Instead, as an employee of the NFL or a member club, you are held to a higher standard and expected to conduct yourself in a way that is responsible, promotes the values upon which the League is based, and is lawful."
The victim met with prosecutors and wants a misdemeanor assault charge filed. The DA and police are still investigating prior to deciding if those charges are filed. Edwards wallet would normally be a factor here but it's not because LeBron James can more than match him in terms of bribage. Way more than, and the guy is James buddy.
Goodell, being the idiot he is will probably suspend our newest WR. I think he has it in for the Jets.
Goodell, in most of his recent actions, actually favors the Jets. We tend to look at the negatives about such moves.
If Edwards misses two games right away, it won't be that huge. He has to learn the playbook and he has to be on the same page as Mark Sanchez in order to be truly effective.
