I love the Jets draft and feel it was a good foundation for the future. Knowing what we know now about the players who fell, If you could do it all over would you rather have had A) Ferguson, Mangold, or Clemens, or B) Leinart, Mangold, Justice(at #35). For me its A b/c I was starting to think leinart was a little b**** from all the things I heard about him and seeing about him. Plus I like the prospects of Fergy as oppossed to Justice who has had a troubled past
Good call. When you look at them side by side without that extra pick, I think people can agree that they are close. But, if you add that pick, I think that it is clear which is better. Off-Topic (and sorry about that), Jetsin2004, what happens to Blaylock and Mccareins contracts if they are cut after June 1? Can we save money on them then? (I don't think either should be cut and I know that it hurts us on next year's cap, I'm just wondering)
Honestly I Would have preferred option B and I think most people who say they wouldn't are liars. However, there was no way of predicting Justice would fall all the way to where he did. I thought he was top 10 and at the very least top 20 because he is probably the only other OT that can play the left side except maybe Eric Winston. He should have been a priority player but he ended up falling. So if I could go back and had the knowledge that I do now I would have gone Leinart, Mangold, Justice but since I, like most people following the draft, thought Justice would have gone much sooner, I am glad we picked the way we did because we did what we had to do to assure that our big holes were filled.
I would prefer B because I like Leinart, and think the Jets, Raiders, Bills, and Lions will eventually come to a day when they realized the missed out on all All Pro franchise QB. A pary of me even wished the Bills had drafted Leinart so the Jets had too see that decision twice a year.
Enough on Lienart. I have gone to most of his games. If you reversed the roles and put Clemens with USC and Matt with the Ducks you will think totally different. Behind the awesome OL of USC, with Bush and White and good recievers...Clemens would have been the best of the best. Sorry for MAtt, but after 2 years with Arizona, he will be looking for a job...you can get him then, cheap, as a back up to Clemens.
Ugh, enough with the Leinart talk already. By 2008 he'll be doing commercials for Turtle Wax or some crap, and it won't be thanks to endorsements. Clemmens is a talent. Watch some film on this kid. I had no clue who he was before the draft, except that we visited him. After seeing some film, this kid has the look of the next full-time Jets QB, and that's actually a good thing for once. Our first three picks were possibly the best first three ever for us. The only competition would be the year of Ellis/Abe/Penny. Ellis has disappeared. Chad is lucky to still be able to sign his checks with his right arm, and Abe is no longer with the club. Brick and Mangold are starters on our line for the next 10 years. Clemmens may be behind them for the whole span, save a few games early this year. And I didn't even want D'Brick.
to be honest as much as i like leinart. draft him would of been cap crippling and a tona a pressure on his shoulders to succed. going with clemens who has a better physical set he wont come with a huge price tag that top 5 qb's come with. and he doesnt have the pressure of a top 5 pick where you can be quickly label bust if you dont produce right away. if leinart was here he would be expectd to start next year and expected to play great. atleast clemens can grow through his growing pains with out every single move being under he microscope.
2 number 2's means we could trade way up to get someone we really want especially when you consider that we wont have that great of a year this year. hopefull the new guys can get the d line fixed for the 3-4 next year and we are on or way
Option A. I think it's close in the Brick>Justice, But I think that at the very least Leinart>Clemens coming in only because I have seen more of Leinart. I really love the Clemens pick though and would take Brick>Leinart. Also, the addition of the second rounder next year is huge. We should all cross our fingers that the Skins take a nosedive right into the ground this year, as that would only make this past draft even better.
i agree where already set for 3 players in the 1st 2 rds next year. This is always a good thing. and all 3 could potentialy be starters considering we wont have a need to draft a qb at all . so the pick will probably be defensive or skill position on the offense like rb. lets just hope they arent anymore top 5 OT from NY coming out. next year.
Would have traded down some 10 Spots gotten the extra 2nd or 3rd +1 Taken DeAngelo Williams there and still Mangold @ 29 and Beefed up the Line a little more with the extra picks. Again this is IMO If I could do it over.
the reason im not stressing rb. cause if everything plays out the way there suppose too. we could be in position to draft Peterson or Marshawn.. ill take ethier of those guys over wiliams.
It should Be stressed because we still don't Have a Franchise runner. Martin = Empty Houston = Long Shot but could pan out and would be my reason to wait 1 year. IMO DeAngelo + 1 or 2 picks > D'Brick and we had a chance for that.
i agree with your take on martin and houston. but like i said there are gonna be two rbs out there that are better than DeAngelo imo atleast. So let curtis go have his fun. we arent winning any rings this year. We have the Oline now. and the future at qb.. next year we bring in the frachise rb. hopefully we are in that position. the way i look at it Williams went 27 ovr. so trading down 10 spot you still would be reaching.
I loved the DBrick, Mangold and Clemens Pick ... but a part of me wanted us to stay at 35 and get Lendale n then sending our 2nd rnder next year and like a sixth rounder to nab Clemens. But its over so we cant do anything about it.
