JETS FA Signings Update It looks like we are adding some good depth. Anyone know anything about the monster size OT from UCLA (6-9, 346, wow!)? Any chance he might be able to compete for RT with Jones. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Record, FA Signings Joining fourth-rounder Leon Washington are undrafted free agents DonTrell Moore (5-foot-10, 212) of New Mexico and Ryan Gilbert (5-10, 230) of Houston. Both are coming off 1,000-yard seasons -- in fact, Moore became the sixth Division I player to rush for 1,000 yards in four straight seasons. And he did it despite undergoing major knee surgery after his junior year. Gilbert had surgery after last season to repair torn knee cartilage. The Jets also signed massive UCLA offensive tackle Ed Blanton (6-9, 346) and another college team captain, DE Darrell Adams (6-4?, 277) of Villanova. Also signed: Nevada DE Craig Bailey (6-4, 260) and Georgia DE Will Thompson (6-3, 254). ... Tannenbaum told the truth when he said last week, "We're not going to draft a kicker or a punter." But the Jets added a kicker/punter as a free agent, Notre Dame's D.J. Fitzpatrick.
I love all the moves this new CS is doing. This is were you get hopefully pick a diamond in the rough. I am so fired up for mini camp and full camp I will attend both this year just to see the difference in coaching styles. I know and feel there will be no keg of beer or hambergers or hotdogs this year.
Doubt it Position: T Class: 5Sr School: UCLA Conference: Pacific-10 Ht., Wt.: 6-8, 345 40 Time: 5.52 Grading System BIO: Three-year starter at both the left and right tackle positions. Earned All-Conference consideration as a senior. POSITIVES: King-sized blocker with growth potential. Walls defenders from the play, displays good hand punch and extends to keep opponents away. Plays with a wide base, patient and steers opponents from the action. Gets movement from run blocks, turning opponents off the ball. NEGATIVES: Lacks balance and blocking range. Marginally strong for his size and does not finish blocks. Exploited by quick, nimble opponents. ANALYSIS: Consistent and durable on the college level, Blanton has an NFL body for the strong-side tackle position yet must take his game to another level for any chance of playing on Sundays. PROJECTION: Undrafted Free Agent
I'm glad we signed Darrell Adams. I like him as a possible 3-4 DE, and he went to Villanova, which is always nice.
there is a 99% chance none of these guys make the roster. ITs always good though to keep your options open and get lucky, ala wayne chrebet
Adrian Jones is a much better tackle than many folks are giving him credit for. He did a nice job last year with the entire team falling apart around him and he'll only get better. That being said, I can imagine a scenario where the Jets line up the 6'9" guy as a TE outside of Jones on the goal line. Hopefully one of these DE pans out (I'm betting on the Villanova guy). We've got a real problem on the defensive line.
