Here are the things I hope to see from the Jets early on on Sunday: 1. Pass first, quick precision throws with short routes providing several outlets for Sanchez. The crowd will be louder than anything he's heard yet this year and he's going to have trouble changing things up at the line. So keep it simple and short with a quick progression for him to read. That'll help against the blitzes the Saints will likely throw his way early on also. 2. Keep passing if it's working until the Saints shut us down. The quickest way to shut up the crowd will be to get a lead early and I wouldn't mind seeing a Brady-esque 8 throws on the first drive ending in a TD. 3. Judicious use of draws and misdirection traps on second down if the early passes aren't connecting. 1st and 10 throw, 2nd and 8+ keep it on the ground. The conventional wisdom says to try to grind it out on the ground and take the ball out of Bree's hands. The problem with that is that the Jets haven't shown an ability to do that very well yet. The better option is to try to grab the game and put the Saints away early on.
This. I know people keep going on about how the Saints are #2 in rushing but it's deceiving. I didn't see the Iggles game but from the Bills game, they were only sending 4 on every play and keeping a lot of players deep to shut down the deep pass, which in turn was giving the Saints room for one huge run after another. When the Saints face the Jets they're going to have people coming in from all angles all day long. The running game won't be allowed to come anywhere close to what it's done in the past 3 games. If the Jets can hold Chris Johnson to under 100 there's no reason they can't do the same to the Saints.
Nice breakdown , I also think the Jets will need to pass to set up the run. Leon and Keller will need to have a large presence if the Jets are to win this one. Screens, quick slants and draws should be staples in this offensive gameplan. If we can get the Saints back on their heels a bit , then the run game and long ball may come into play. I kind of envision the Saints going with a similiar approach on offense , although I do believe they will try to force the longer passes. This is where we might have an opportunity to either sack Brees or create enough of pressure to hopefully force a pick. Should be a good game from two pretty balanced teams. I give the Jets the edge on D and specials and the Saints on O and intangibles - home crowd .

Now name me anyone who is not a reciever on the Saints, Even our running backs are good a catching the ball out of the backfield and it is still being debated if Reggie is really a back or reciever but he is a Play Maker that you have to account for.
Like the Tenn game, if we can get out to an early lead and then grind out the running game with some success, I think that would be the best option. We want NO offense off balance and playing from behind, but not give them all the time they want to do it. On defense our D is going to have to press Brees continually... and our def backfield give his WR no quarter to find the ball.. I got a feeling this is going to be a very tough game though. Those guys got shut down last week and now they are at home wanting to rip it up... three wins from us and we might be primed for a bit of a let down. Not that there is any shame losing to the Saints.. they are pretty solid.
The Jets are going to need to score points to win this game. It's in the dome against a powerful offense that has blitz-defeating outlets (Shockey and Bush) available on every play. The Jets have not faced an offense yet this year with a strong pass-catching TE. The safety blitz is going to be very constrained by the need to keep somebody on Shockey and somebody in position deeper down the field to prevent the seam routes from breaking the scheme. We're going to have to score points on Sunday, probably 24-27 at a minimum, to beat the Saints. The Jet's offensive pattern so far this season isn't up to that task. They need to change it up and show an ability to move consistently early on or they'll be down 14-0 and it's asking a lot of Sanchez to then dial it up. They should be going for the throat from the start, and you don't do that with 2 yards and a cloud of dust on 1st down.
I think one big key will be whether the secondary steps up. The injuries to Shep and Strickland are huge. If Lowery and Coleman can hold their own it will make a big difference. We'll get burned all day if the Dbacks can't hold the Saints' WRs long enough for pressure to get to Brees. It will be interesting to see how Rex deals with it.
My take.......... On Offense: It is pretty obvious the Jets have to pass to set up the run. Teams are stacking the box, with the plan of letting Sanchez beat them. One caveat though, throw out the run problems the Jets had against Tenn. They are the top run stopping defense in the league, N.O. isn't even close to them in that regard. 1.) The Jets have to use Keller more. My guess is they are going to use Vilma to cover him. This would open up the run game and we can let Vilma do what he does best, make tackles 5-7 yards past the line. This will definitely open the play action. 2.) Give Sanchez time. NO has been causing turnovers. He needs to get more time then what the line gave him against Tenn. If they don't, Sanchez is a going to throw a few picks, expect some turnovers. Do 1 and 2 and then the Jets can run the ball effectively. This game on Offense really rests on how good the O-line is. As a unit they really have not been great, barely average if you ask me, although individually some have been good. If the line comes to play and the Jets can get Keller more active, the Jets will be able to get Brees out of the game. Defense: No secret here... Continue doing what they have been doing. The comparison of the Jets to the Eagles with regards to blitzing and Drew Brees is a gigantic faux argument. The Jets defense in comparison to the Eagles is like a night and day comparison. The Jets are way way way stronger up the middle and have more dynamic players. Plus they blitz an order of magnitude more. Under no circumstances should they sit back and use the passive system the Bills used. The Bills had a huge advantage over the Jets, in respect to the weather. I think the Bills pussified coach screwed the pooch there. Then again comparing the Bills D to the Jets is like comparing the Ocean to the Sun. So the answer is pressure, pressure. I am quite certain New Orleans has not been hit by a defense like this. Special Teams: This is probably the greatest advantage the Jets have over NO. The Jets have better coverage and return units then does NO. The Jets should be able to win the field position game within a game. Do all this and it still doesn't guarantee a victory. At this point the New Orleans offensive advantage at home is greater than the sum of the Jets O/D/ST.
You woulden't say that Owen Daniels isn't a strong pass catching TE? I would probably even take Ben Watson over Shockey.
Well Jet fans are finally getting around to the fact that Eric Smith has been pretty damn good at covering the TE. This is not the E. Smith of a Mangini defense. Lets also consider the fact that teams have to keep the TE in for pass blocking because Ryan is basically bringing the house on passing downs. Really if an offense plans to keep their QB upright they have to use their TE for protection packages more so than routes.
EXACTLY what I was going to be posting next because Sean Payton if he was smart will have Shockey strictly at blocking the likes of a Gholston or a Scott that will come in and try to wallop Brees. Payton knows he has the advantage with his WRs vs the Jets secondary so why try and use Shockey as a receiving threat as opposed to him being there to help pick up what is already a wounded Saints O-Line. Sure you will have Shockey act disgruntled or throw his hands up in the air when he doesn't get his catches like he always does but having him block would be crucial if NO wants to win the game.
Pretty much yes..... and I forgot to add.... F-Shockey lol If he gets upset, all Payton has to do is point how his numbers will look with the back up throwing him the ball.
