Not to jack this thread, but of all the criticisms of Herm's time as Jets coach this is the only one that I've always found to be bullshit. Against that Steelers defense, asking Pennington to put the ball in the air while already in field goal range would have been insane--Doug Brien is the only one to blame for that loss. As for Herm's pick of the Titans, I don't really care. It would've been nice to see the football analyst, you know, analyze (as opposed to theorizing that they won last week so they'll probably blow it this week.)
Mark Schlereth pissed me off more. He's convinced the titans will run the ball down the Jets threoat. GOOD LUCK! Cuz if they can't dominate on the ground they ain't winning!
This will be a season changing game on Sunday. This game will define the Jets the rest of the season and beyond. Of course we will lose games this year, but if we win this one expect the bandwagon to get so full it will almost stop moving. This Titans game could be the difference between the Jets going 7-9 or 11-5. I really believe if the Jets win this game many team will come to fear playing this club and that factor adds 2 wins. Then what and 3-0 start does for the confidence of this team adds 2 more and we get to 11 wins or better this season. I got the impression all week that many "experts" felt the Pats lost this past Sunday game, more then the Jets won it, if that makes sence to you ? If the Jets can squeeze out a win against the Titans then the show is going to start. I would add that a win would be historic as well, as Mark Sanchez would become the first rookie in NFL history to win his first three starts......
We weren't in FG range and we not only didn't throw the ball we didn't run the ball to advance it we moved backwards intentionally.
so here's the thing....Rex is gonna stack the box against the run, while protecting the edges, because he's not afraid of their passing game. This will eliminate the threat from 4.24. The NYJ defense is going to dare the Titans to win through the air. Our secondary is gonna lock down their receivers and allow Bart, Harris, Thomas, Ellis, Rhodes, etc. to pummel Collins. Kerry is gonna wish he was back in rehab after the beating he takes on Sunday.
Its no big change from any other season. All these experts pick the team opposite of the Jets to win all year long. Last year they got a little farve happy , until they saw he was breaking down. This year will be no different. I know this isn't going to be a cake walk!!!! The titans put up scores and we will be able to handle that. I'm certain we will have to relay on Sanchez this week to do his magic and I have a lot of confidence in his arm and reads , so I guess I'm saying Jets Win 35-21
Here's the thing about a stacked box, if you can match up with the stack you can still run. We don't stake up with the box because we have a TE that is a weapon that needs to be on the field that can't block in the running game. Stacking the box doens't mean you can't run the ball. If you block it right and have a speed back huge running plays come out of stacking the box.
More folks are picking us to lose this week than last week. I think they just can't see the Titans going 0-3. If they were 1-1 I imagine more would be picking us. How do you like that logic?
Herm is so funny. When you listen to him talk about football now, he sounds exactly like some of the ultra-casual football fans that I work with. If I were a betting man and someone told me that there was an ESPN football 'analyst' that hadn't broken down a single snap of football this season, I would put every cent I have on Herm. His rationale for picking the Bills this week was similar in it's idiotic simplicity: 'Herm, why are you picking the Bills this week?' ''Well, you know what our buddy Boomer says about the Bills. 'Nobody circles the wagons like the Buffalo Bills.' They're just due for a big win.'' All with that moron look on his face, as if he tried to call a timeout and someone just told him he burned his last TO in the third quarter.
Schlereth's opinion was that the Titans are desperate and will fight hard. That's fine. Herm's opinion was that the Jets have to recover from a big win. That's the opinion of an idiot.
