I was thinking on the bus this morning that maybe the Jets intentionally traded down to 53 rather than 49. By trading down to 53, it may have gave the Vikings the idea that the Jets were just trading down to gain more picks and have a deeper draft. However, Tangini could have also been talking to teams in front of Minnesota, like Dallas. That way, when Dallas came on the clock, the Jets could trade up and take Clemens, who Minnesota also wanted, without risking Minnesota trading up ahead of them, screwing the Jets over. Very well executed, and not a blunder like many are saying.

You know, now that you say that, it could be pure genius.

You know how I complained yesterday about what I felt was a mess in the second round, but if this was the plan, then it would be one of the smartest draft moves I have ever seen.

It does make a lot of sense when you consider that with multiple draft day trades, we only wound up with 1 extra late pick, and 1 extra next year.

The bus is a great place for thinking isn't it?

that's a very good thought, and may have been true. Sounds reasonable....

I love the fact that we picked up the Redskins' 2nd Rounder next year. That's a valuable pick. Let's all root for the Redskins to have a piss-poor year so we get a high pick!

Plus Clemens comes in a bit later and cheapter than if we'd taken him earlier--that'll let us keep him a round as a 3rd stringer, then probably a 2nd stringer after a year, and we'll see if he's good enough to start. Many teams don't even bother with a 3rd string qb nowadays because they just aren't worth the cost.

My only problem with that is that I don't think this pick will have much value. First, I don't see the Skins ending under .500. We will probably, at best, get a mid-round pick.

However, my whole reason for getting decent picks next year was because I was looking forward to Quinn. The thing is, we have multiple QBs on the roster, any of which weren't with the club before Saturday could be our future. If not, it looks like Tangini got the guy they really want to build the club around anyway.

It may just work out after all!
