Whatch this video clip on him (Scroll down to bottom):

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/draft?round=3&dl=nfl

Am I wrong but does this guy remind you a little of Troy Palamalu. I know it may be a streatch but most of those clips are against a formidable pro-style Notre Dame offense. He is slower than Palamalu but I can see he playing the same role.

    What do you think?

Well he's definitely physical. Like a mini LB. Doesn't look very agile but seems to be a sure tackler.

Very nice open field tackling, some hard hits, but not on Palamalu's level. He doesn't seem quick enough to be dominant at the NFL level.

I dont guess this when your football player brains and work ethic or more then speed. Speed makes up for your mistakes but, BRains and worth ethic prevents you from mistakes. NOW im not saying he will be great BUT, I rather trust a guy like this then a guy who does not know how to read coverages.

Another thing that people are saying if Schlegel and Smith were picked by Bradway everyone would hate it. Thats not true Bradway and Edwards drafted good citizens. Tangini drafted SMART FOOTBALL LEADERS. Big differences. One person saves a person from a burnig building another saves a game by a BIG INT or Tackle.

PS WHere are the new Aviators?????

i'm an MSU grad, class of 2005 so i've been watching this guy play for a few years. I like Smith wwhile he was at state. He was clearly the leader of the MSU D, but the secondary of that team the past few years has been horrible. This pick was not a good one, we are talking about a team in MSU the gave up over 500 yards passing on that MSU defense. He can tackle well and might have a chance at a back up OLB spot but he doesn't have the speed or instinct to play saftey in the NFL. This was a poor selection as early as the 3rd round, and i hate to say that being both a Jets and Spartans fan. All that being said i hope that he proves me wrong and has a creat NFL career for the New York Jets. GO GREEN! GO WHITE!

He doesn't move well laterally...and seems like he's not that fast. Hits hard though, but that doesn't really matter if he's hitting a guy who's already 25 yds downfield. Time will tell with this pick....

He actually reminds me of Vic Green quite a bit. Physical close to the scrimmage guy who can be productive without great speed based on smarts.

I was thinking the same thing! His style of play is the Same but he has a different body type. Could be some of the pads V.G. wore.

But Vic is my boy, Still wear his Jersey on gameday! I like the Cecil comparison very close....

You know who he reminds me of.

    Derek Pagel.

He is slow in coverage and is stiff in the hips and struggles changing directions. This guy will be nothing more than a back-up.
