It has just hit me, NExt year we are already set up im prime position due to our flexibility. If we stink up the joint we have an extra chip to improve the team. We could use it to trade up. Better yet a second round pick can be used to trade for a proven veteran. EIther way you look at it second round value is huge and the fact that we still landed the quarter back that we had been targeting all along proves that mangini and baum know exactly what theyre doing. IF everything the experts say about clemmons paves out he could do for us in 2008-09 what chad did in 02. I fully expect penny and ramsey to keep us competitive in our games but i remain unsure of how many games we can pull out in 06. THe future is bright and while i would have love the sexy picks of reggie bush or leinart, D'brick is by far the safest and most proven commodity. Hell be our bookend tackle for 10 years whereas leinart was already suspect and getting bush would have mortgaged this years and next years draft.
The trade was even in draft chart value. But it was a good job finding a trade. Number 35 = 550 Number 53 = 370 Number 189 = 16 2nd round pick for value is equal to one round later = 85th pick =165
the redskins are always desperate to get the player they want, and don't value draft picks as much as most teams, so this trade was no suprise it's really nice for us, and i would go as far as saying that i would have been happy with clemmens at 29 (if we got another o-lineman or a playmaker that slipped at 35)....so you can imagine how i feel about what we did with our pick
Flexibility in the draft is always a positive thing going in. The Pats always seem to have an extra 2nd or thereabouts to work with.
It all depends on what you think of Kellen Clemens. If the Jets were dead set on drafting him at 35, were able to trade down get an extra 2nd for next year and land him, then yes it was rape. When you slow down and actually think about passing on Lendale White, Chad Jackson (who went to NE of all places), and Jimmy Williams, it doesn't smell so sweet. Plus, is everyone here comfortable with Kellen Clemens as our franchise QB, drafting him means no drafting of a QB in the next few years. As someone who has to deal with Giants fans and their "Eli is the king of NY" rhetoric, I feel like I am bringing a knife to a gun fight. Clemens is no Brett Favre or Tom Brady, no matter how bad people want to believe it.
The one great part of the trade I love is it actually gives me a tangible reward to root agaisnt the Redskins.
How many picks do the Skins have this year? I read in the past 7 years, the skins have had the least number of picks. Does anybody have a chart with there picks the past 7 years? I would really like to see who they drafted.
