With the "don't hit the punter" rule it's actually a very smart thing to do.

Assuming we punt on a 4 & few yards... if we punt and you hit the punter it's a 5 yard penalty and we get 1st down, if you don't hit the punter we might be running it and gain a lot (guy rushed for 50 TD in HS) or at least enough for a 1st down. Either way the fact you have to think about what to do gives us a better chance of succesfully punting the ball (which is what we'll do 90% of the time anyways)
I'm happy he's on our team

I might chip in and help defray the cost of Reggie's Uhaul trailer. Anything to help get him out of my brain forever. He definitely joins Mirer and Van Dyke on the list of my worst Jets ever.

We also picked up Jason Davis off waivers from Chicago. Anyone know anything about this guy? I'm hearing Chitown fans thought he was going to make the team.

NY Jets claim punter, tight end, fullback off waivers

The Jets have claimed punter A.J. Trapasso, tight end Matthew Mulligan, and fullback Jason Davis off waivers, according to a person with knowledge of the moves.

Trapasso, a rookie with the Titans, is best known for bouncing a punt off the Cowboys' $40 million scoreboard. His arrival means that Reggie Hodges, as expected, is history. Mulligan and Davis fill needs at their respective positions. The addition of the three players and QB Kevin O'Connell means the Jets must release four players.

Nobody with a worse record last year than we had wanted them.

Well, if we don't need a punter for the next 10 years, maybe you'll understand.

41.5? That is distance, not net, right? Why is it so hard to find a decent friggin punter:

2007 (Junior): averaged 41.5 yards on 53 kicks ... 21 downed inside the 20 ... Ray Guy Award semifinalist ... also handled some of the kickoff duties midseason ... special units player of week: Akron, Washington, Minnesota ... Big Ten player of week: Michigan State ... scout team dog tags: Akron, Washington, Minnesota, Purdue, Michigan State.

Clemens for Scifres from San Diego. The Chargers need a big time backup to Rivers and to Volek(assuming he's still there). HAHAH!

No, get Al Davis on the phone now. Maybe they'll take Gholston (or a 7th) straight up for Lechler.

He was commenting on the fake punt, not the fact the guy would solve our punter problem for the next decade, and now it seems we may have cut him already for the Jags punting castoff...
