Take this for what it's worth...because after all, it's a Florio article (I know, I feel dirty...but i'm tired of talking about Marshall and Leon's contract :smile Anyways.....if there's any chance of the Steelers cutting Hampton...I think the Jets should be the first in line for his services. He's a 3-4 run-stuffing NT with playoff/championship experience....the PERFECT compliment to Kris Jenkins, IMO. I'm not sure how cap feasible this would be...but he IS in the last year of his contract....so you know he's gonna play his heart out. At least it's something else to chew the fat on......any thoughts? http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/09/02/case-hampton-on-the-outs/
I'd be extremely surprised if they cut him. Casey Hampton is a very good NT and would def love to bring him. He might be looking to be a starter tho, so I don't know how or if that will work.
We don't need 'help' at NT, but if we find someone formidable to rotate with Jenkins...the sky's the limit for this defense. Not to mention the kind of fronts you'll get with Hampton and Jenkins in the game.
IMO Casey Hampton is better than Jenkins as a NG. Don't get me wrong I love Jenkins and he is probably better than Hampton would be as a tackle in a 4-3. These two guys together would be awesome! even if it is just to spell each other but I think Ryan would find a lot of creative ways to play them together and spell each other. If he is available I think we should definatly go get him.
He already has his eyes where he would land? Or is he just saying he would seek another team without discussions with the Steelers?
If he does come available I think there is no doubt that the Jets would make a serious run at him. No doubt Ryan would create schemes to have them both on the field at the same time - scary to think about. I would take this pickup over any WR pickup that we are talking about.
I would imagine Hampton and Jenkins would line up very similarly to how Ngata and Gregg line up for the Ravens. This would give up great flexibly with our formations. IMHO, it wouldn't matter who is an end or a tackle. Ryan was talking about moving Jenkins around anyway. Plus in a 43 front they would both be in the middle.
Hahaha...I'd almost feel bad for Ronnie Brown, Marshawn Lynch, and Fred Taylor. Another thing to keep in mind: Ryan saw a lot of Casey Hampton when he was coaching in Baltimore.
If he gets cut I would love to see the Jets bring him in. Imagine him, Jenkins, and Ellis on the field at the same time. Ryan could do scary, mean, very bad things with him on the field.
Hampton isn't exactly a sack machine, but he's a good player that would definitely help our team out... maybe. He's getting up there... 32 this year... definitely not a long term solution.
I'm surprised to hear he could be cut. It doesn't seem to make sense. Why wouldn't they try and trade him?
No chance in hell, the steelers defense would take a big step back, although he hasn't played and stayed in the shape they want you just can't find 3-4 NTs. They are a rare breed.
Steelers laugh off Hampton cut rumor http://www.timesonline.com/sports/sports_details/article/1424/2009/september/02/steelers-laugh-off-hampton-cut-rumor.html I doubt he plays anywhere else this year.
